How do you guys acclimate new fish? I have always been show/ told to float em for a while and then net them out of the bag to avoid any water from the prior tank being added. Is there a drip method or something? Also if there is a sticky or something on this I did not find it.

For me Hardy fish-float for a while and dump them in.

Not hardy fish or my expensive saltwater fish- get a piece of air tubing, start a siphon, tie a loose knot at bottom of the siphon to slow the flow, fill up the bucket with fish in it. Dump some out and continue.

i float, cut the bag, Dump some water in the sink with the stopper in. put the bag back in -hold it in place with a clothespin, come back dump most of the water out. Use my tiny net and scoop the fish into the tank. i do not put store water into the tank if i can help it.

When I buy from a petstore I usually just float from 10-15 minutes. I try not to always add the water too, but sometimes I do. When I order fish and they are delivered I dump them and the water they came with into a big bowl. Wait for the temp to adjust more to the house temp, then add a cup (not a measure cup, like an actual cup you drink out of lol) or more to the water from whichever tank they are going into. Then wait another 10 minutes or so, and dump it all into the tank.

Alright, can a how to sticky be made on this subject?

Also can someone explain what equipment is needed for the drip method and the technique used?

I am glad to see my method is common for Fw.

float the bag for 15 minutes, cut the top off add some tank water and float for 15 minutes, add more tank water almost full float 15 minutes, dump fish into net over bucket and add fish. Also usually leave the lights off to help with the stress

RN hit the nail in the head with the equipment needed for a very simple drip system. airline tubing and a bucket. maybe some good ole duct tape to keep the tube in place. you can get fancy with it, but this works.

hardy fish, float for about a half an hour then net into tank as stated above.
sensitive fish, I empty them into a bucket first.....I have never been good at the airline tubing thing, so I use a 3ml syringe and squirt a syringe or two every 10 minutes or so for about an hour.....making sure the water temperature is kept within normal range of course......then I scoop about half the water out of the bucket and empty into the sink, then continue to squirt water into the bucket from the tank for the next hour. Then I scoop out another half the water in the bucket. By the time the third hour comes around, the water in the bucket should be mostly water from the tank. Then I net the fish out and place in the tank. Also, if your running pressurized co2 like I am, I make sure the ph isn't a lot different, if it is quite a bit different from the water in the bucket, I turn off the co2 in the tank and aerate the tank for a bit to offgas the co2 until the ph comes into a better range closer to the water in the bucket. I have had fish in the past get a bit of a ph shock since the ph in my tank is pretty low while the co2 is pumping.
