How many corys and clown loaches?

This is rediculus. Most of you blowing things way out of proportion here. I understand that you all want the exact best for the fish. But come on no mater how big of a tank you put a fish in it will never be as good as if it were living in its natural habitat. I have kept clown loaches with 1" albino loches for over two years and they get along great and even schole and play together. So in my opinion, get the loaches and the cories that you want and enjoy them. Even if they get stunted, as long you do the best you can to take good care of them they will still live long healthy lives. If you start to feel that what you are doing is not adaquit for the fishs helth them give them to someone else who can or to the lfs no big deal.

this is exactly what I am getting at.

keeping clowns and few cories in 55 gallon tank is likely not going to be a nightmare.

it is going to be an enjoyable tank.

if they clowns do get huge, well, any LFS will gladly take them and sell them for big bucks. They are hard to find and sought after when they are big.

its not like you are trying to find a home for a big ugly pacu that no one would want.

I kind of think everyone should maybe take a deep breath, and then hold hands and sing Kumbaya, or do some yoga...or at least eat some candy or find someone to hug you. Sheesh.

Here's the bottom line: You will NEVER get one straight, unanimous answer about what is best for your fish. You will NEVER get a consensus about what is a proper stock for your tank, no matter what size tank it is.

There are a whole lot of people with a whole lot of wildly different experiences in this world keeping a whole lot of fish. All of them do different things. All of them have opinions about it.

Here's what you do: Read all the facts you can find, gather a large number of opinions and take them all (including mine, even this post right here) with a grain of salt, and then do the best you possibly can for the helpless, captive living creatures who are ENTIRELY dependent on you for their health and well being.

If the evidence before you indicates that there is a better decision to be made, then that's the one you make. See? It's simple. Now eat some candy.

There are pics of large loaches in that link I gave above. There's already been a few people here who have said they have clown loaches that are over 4 inches. Doesn't that count for real life experience? I myself have a few that are over 4 inches in length. I have a 2 incher that grew 2 inches in about a year. Considering the number of clown loaches sold each year and that clown loaches can live up to 40+ years old, sad to say the reality is that most clown loaches die prematurely never reaching even half of their supposed length. This is because people who buy them are often misinformed and often put them in too small of a tank.

Also many of the infos found on AC profiles are outdated. Many members have wanted to update them for a while now even before AC was turned over to Neo.

yes, but tank size does not stunt fish growth.

that is a myth.

diet and food consumption does.

and here is the catch: its probably the diet of all the loaches sold every year that stunts them.

not because they were not kept in 180 gallon tanks.

but that does not mean they cannot be healthy and happy and live for a long long time.

I have 4 that are 10 years old that come right up to top of my 65 and take food from my hand.

you don't get much healthier than that.

I will see if I can post an mpeg later.

what exactly is the problem?

I have kept them together for years.

did you get some aggressive loaches?

I have heard so many times "do NOT keep Botias (Clowns are from the Botia group) with Corydoras". I guess your lucky that your Clwons got along with your Cories, but in most cases it doesn't go that way.

I'm not trying to start an arguement, I just think if there is a 60% chance the Clowns are going to bully the Cories so don't get them then. Cories don't display their natural behavior when they are around big active fish, at least IME anyway.

Thanks to EVERYONE for their opinions! I didn't mean to start any controversy! I just really love these Cory's and Clown loaches and was trying to see if there was ANY way possible to keep both. I've just seen a lot of people's pictures on here with clowns and cories. I may just pick up 3 clowns and see how they do, and if they start hassling the cories, I can easily take them to my lfs and they would gladly take them. However, I am going to take everyone's opinion and consider them, and finally decide when I get the tank. If the angelicus loaches would come down on price at Petsmart, I would get 4 of those and not even worry about clowns. And, I may end up just getting up to 12-15 Corys. Thanks again to everyone.
