right now ive been running 2 filstar xp3 filters
its been doing ok for the messy large cichlids...not sure how large goldfish poop measures up to the cichlids

a few more questions..
1. would it be ok to NOT feed everyday? i plan on feeding pro-gold sinking pellets every other day. is this ok?
2. would it be ok to add a few koi? i understand the competition for food issues but is that the only reason? do koi harrass goldfish?
3. i have a heater now and the temp is 78. the tank is down my basement, i was wondering if i can go unheated? which will prob bring down the temp to about 68-70

yeah.. you can feed them once a week if you like.. they just wont be very fat.... kios will get to big but you can keep them in there for a year or 2 and move them out

and kio and goldfish are cold water fish so they dont need heaters... the water sometimes freezes over so its ok if the water drops down....

taht also means they gonna slow down on the eating and thier metabolisim will fallow that too

I have nine fancy goldfish in my 125-gallon tank. They are very healthy now. Do you guys nine fancies are a lot in there?

thang bom, i keep 8 medium fancies in my 180. if you have very good filtration then its fine.

HELLO, NEW HERE... uh... i have a 55 gallon tank with 10 fancy gold..various..all uniquie and great...1 pleco and one snail.... broadleaf plants all on the back of the aquiaruim..... 1 60 gl and 1 30 gl...underground filter sys...no powerheads...just air...change the water around every 4 weeks or so...feeed floating pelets morning and night.... all water levels are good...ammonia barely detectable...all other in check... so... for a 220 gallon.... hmmm if you have similar setup for your size...you should be able to maintain 30 +... mine are around 56 inches or so... and act very happy.... just my two cents.. :O)

rey, thats WAY too many fish for a 55 gallon.

i have 8 full-size goldfish in my 180 gallon.

10 is too many goldfish for a 55G plus a pleco (which should never be kept with goldfish). you must be water changes every other day not to have nitrate issues. you can't comfortably fit more than 3 in a 55G tank.

thanks legendary,, i get sooo many different opinions on the quantities that can go in tanks... I am talking about 5 inches head to fantail... i am a novice...so insight and experience from others is the only way i can learn... they are very active...clean the tank very well...the water is clear.... am i being decieved?

probably. even if the water is clear they are probably always in each others faces, which stresses them out. my tank may be a bit OS, but my fish have enough hiding spaces to get out and chill if they choose to. you should return 7 goldfish and the pleco.

wow.. well instead of returning... more aquarium.. might be better on my part.... so...what youa re saying is 1 per 20 gallon??? or so.... they look like they school with each other... i have had the tank around 4 months or so.... so they have been with each other a while... hmm well...time to start looking for bigger water for the kids

:shark: in the pleco... what harms him??
