How to safely run a sand bottom tank

A good micron filter would clear that up within a few hours.

When I got sand, i took out EVERYTHING so I was in a rush, it was cloudy so I took off filter like how I had read on the Internet View attachment 194648

Key thing here that created your issue.

Quote"I was in a rush"

Anytime you rush your going to run into issues. Looks like the sand used in that tank was play sand. Not Pool filter sand. This is exactly why Pool filter sand is better in every way then Play or standard sand. Pool filter sand settles fast, VERY easy to wash. You can put it in the tank and have zero cloudiness no floating sand particles.

Looks to me like maybe you didnt rinse the sand very very thoroughly before putting into the tank.

Id never recommend to turn off the filter for 48 hours. When ive done mine with Pool filter sand. It took me 10 to 15 minutes to rinse 100lbs of sand. And the sand was in the tank and running with filters going inside of 30 minutes. No sand in the filter at all.

Looks like he has African cichlids in there so it should be good to go.
