Very nice choice of bettas you wanna bring!! I have a breeding tank, and if you had a few strains that bred, I'd buy some and get more tanks and sell in canada.
I want to keep four, but thanks to shoddy fish-catching and over-stressing and a long car drive in a 110 degree vehicle (no ac) I only have two that are looking healthy, one dead, and one MIA.
I'm going to closely monitor the two remaining ones to see if Dante settles down around them. If so, I'll invest in two more for that tank. If he keeps chasing them and stresses them out, I'll pull them from my fiver and increase their numbers in a different aquarium.
So that'd put me at 1 betta, 4 neons, and a red ramshorn snail in my 5-gallon planted. It looks very well balanced and I've had no fluctuations in my params thusfar, so I don't personally feel it is overstocked. The neons LOVE the live plants so far. ^_^
Kyohti...Its because of you and your love of bettas that got me into wanting another betta...(the one I have right now)....bettas can be very passionate about who they know...our Baby swims up to the front of the tank when daddy or me walk by or get ready to feed him and the others...and he won't swim away from my finger now...he actually swims by it and kinda rubs on my finger...he is definitely my Baby....he is a long tail betta....and your Dante is just gorgeous....
Dante's getting used to his tankmates and only chases them half-heartedly nowadays. Of the 4 tetras I originally bought, I only have one left, though. Doesn't surprise me. That petshop lady at PetCo chased them around for fifteen minutes and stressed them half to death... between that and the hot car drive home, I didn't expect ANY survivors.
I'm happy with the one little fella, though. He's a trooper. Fat and sassy... steals Dante's bloodworms and brine shrimp AND his own tropical flake mix. He's a regular lil' piggie and very vibrant, too. :grinyes:
I'll be adding more tetras with my next paycheck. My goal is a small shoal of 4-5.
UPDATE: Dante's fins have been growin' like crazy. It's amazing to see the difference between his younger finnage and what he's growing now. He also had a mysterious scrape over the top of one eye there for about a week. Looks like he took the hide off it in some form or fashion. But it's healed up without a fuss or fret and you can't even tell it was there.
I also recently renovated his tank with new gravel and rearranged all the plants to put the ones with the most light needs as close to direct lighting as possible. Dante's neon tankmate now has 6 hombres to cruise with. Not intentionally of course. I figured with the rotten luck with his last batch of buddies (bought 4, one lived) that buying 6 would be a safe bet so that maybe I'd end up with a school of 4-5 neons. I bought this bunch from a different store on Tuesday of last week. So far all of them are healthy and in good form, eating like pigs and exploring the tank with gusto. One has two tiny pale patches near the top half of it's head and body that I'm keeping a sharp eye on that in case it's NTD. Then there's one with a torn tailfin and another with a torn dorsal that I'm watching to be sure they don't develop fungus.
I'll have to add new photos of the improvements I've made.
