With this set-up.

Your using All the gravel(substrate) as a biological filter.
Your using the PH to power the biological filter.

Your using the HOB(AC30) filter as a Mechanical filter.
If you want, purchase an extra Foam peice for the filter(completely optional). But could help clean, that little bit extra.
They come with 1 foam, a bag of carbon and now a bag of bio-media.
I, and alot of people here don't use carbon in Planted aquariums. And probably some that don't use it anywhere.

When its weekly maintenance time. And sense your using the substrate for bio-filtering. You can take the AC off and clean it as much as you want, and not worry about killing any good bacteria.
So blasting the foam clean with tap water is fine! ; )

LOL thats the UGF Plate with its lil riser for an UGF Tube comming out of it. With the PH stuck in it.

There was more detail on my orig. diagram. But I didn;t go into it this time, not knowing if the thing was gonna blow up or not, when I tried to save it.

Here's what an UGF looks like....

You'll want to use 1 tube... "Lift tube" is the technical term.
And cut it off so your PH is just above the substrate.

Will that still be ok if I'm using eco-complete? Cause it's like a dirt-like floor (for my live plants) And can i still use the AC with the filters it comes with?

I'm running my 55g with UGF and a magnum 350. And plain 'ol aquarium gravel.

Just don't do that if your going to use one of them fancy substrates. It'll look like the Miss. River all day everyday.

Nope! Nope and uhhh NOPE!!!

Are we back to the drawing board ?
