I need help badly..

sounds like a young veiltail to me. like I asked, do you have any spare tubs?

Hi all. Thanks for your replies. Backinblack is my son. I'm actually the one that found the fish; I assumed it was dead and left it there for him to clean up. I was shocked to find it was alive an hour later.

My father is coming for a visit this weekend, and he has a backyard goldfish pond that he's had some success with. He said he'll take it home with him since we can't figure out where to return it to. All I can guess is that a cat dumped it off in the yard.

Currently the fish is in standard sized mop bucket (never used), with tap water. It's on the back screened porch and it's just under 50 degrees out.

My son is determined to keep it alive until my father can take care of it. He just wants to know if there is anything more we should or can do. The fish should be in its new home by Sunday evening (eastern time).

Thank you for your responses to my son's questions. In his excitement he was afraid no one would take him seriously if you knew he was "just a kid". I'm actually pretty proud of him for caring about what happens to this fish.

add water conditioner or it will probably die, plus do 40-50 % water changes with declorinated water every day if there is no filter.

my grandfather knows what to do with it, so i just need to know what to do to keep it alive until it can be put into safe hands. :bowing:

Thanks. Do we need to do the water conditioner NOW or can it wait until the morning? I can go get some now if need be, or I can have my father bring some tomorrow morning (I'm assuming he has some).

Is it common for goldfish to live that long out of water?

EDIT: All right, I'm stepping back. Seems my son has things under control. Again, thank you.

i'm very sorry about lieing but i just needed answers QUICKLY. i probaly will learn off of this and i really want to be a Veternirian now.

yes, buy some water conditioner immediately. you will need it. do 50% water changes every day (don't forget to add dechlorinator!) until your grampa comes.
