A more interesting question in this regard would be if there is an affinity for certain types of fish related to race, location, sex and age.
I'm caucasian (a more politically correct name I would say)...living in Thailand.
Local Thai people typically tend to hold Arowana, Flowerhorn and other large fish.
In any typical local market, you'll find a small fish shop that will have some of these.

For Chinese people, Koy are a favorite, as is for Japanese I think.

Anyone want to chip in?

(Personally, I like the landscaping and creating an ecosystem most, plants and fish bringing the total picture of some small 'wonderful world in a glass enclosure'.)

I've been selling fish for close to 30 yrs and have observed definite trends in that regard. And if anyone thinks I'd post that sort of stuff here they're crazy. Too many people see any differentiation between the races, even if based in fact, as racist.

I think my fish guy is an alien. He has funny looking eyes and wears hawiian shirts and sometimes he looks a little green. That might be after a night of drinking though... not sure.

WOW.....you just described Rbishop completly there....

loaded question there dude , i made a similiar statement here once and got my head bit off for my trouble , but in this case im really glad to see that you got a much more intelligent response [there is hope for mankind yet]

You should include socio-economic status in your criteria. I will say that people,(mostly men actually, lucky since they're the only sex it's ok to generalize about) who possess a certain character trait and a certain level of economic success tend to buy Lamborghinis, Ferraris, etc. not for the way that the car makes them feel but for the way that they think it makes others feel. People who possess this trait but have insufficient means to buy the car usually end up keeping big fish that they can feed live feeders to. Piranhas, Red Devils, Oscars, etc. I in no way intend to demean these fish or the people who keep them, but I put more credence in my own observations and my analysis thereof than any other source of information.
