A more interesting question in this regard would be if there is an affinity for certain types of fish related to race, location, sex and age.
I'm caucasian (a more politically correct name I would say)...living in Thailand.
Local Thai people typically tend to hold Arowana, Flowerhorn and other large fish.
In any typical local market, you'll find a small fish shop that will have some of these.
For Chinese people, Koy are a favorite, as is for Japanese I think.
Anyone want to chip in?
(Personally, I like the landscaping and creating an ecosystem most, plants and fish bringing the total picture of some small 'wonderful world in a glass enclosure'.)
