Is your fish smarter than a 5th grader?

My harlequins are pretty smart. My female betta and apistos are, as well. Though I haven't had them long enough to be sure, my keyholes certainly act intelligent IMO.

The Elephant Nose.

We're talking fish here. This isn't a nose forum :p:

My shrimp are pretty crafty buggers. They've figured out how to hang on floating plants near the surface during feeding time. They snatch up little flakes or pellets from the surface, then go hide somewhere to devour their prize.

My Marigold Platy!

Hands down the smartest 'social' fish in my tank.

She learned to 'spar' or show aggression from my gourami's (line up parallel to opposing fish and slap tail at it) and uses this teqnique against other fish now to show dominance.

And she finds bottom food faster than any of my other fish. She even holds her own against a much more aggressive Apistogramma Agassiz thats a bit bigger than her. Despite the aggressive fish, she holds her ground and gets that food!

And believe it or not, She Schools with my Praecox (dwarf) rainbows a lot of the time!

I wouldn't have thought a mere platy to be so smart/socially adept... but my one and only in my tank certainly proved me wrong!

Sounds like a lot of fun to watch! Pretty fish too!

My Laetacara Dorsiger, other than them being my favorite fish, they know where to go during bed time, they go inside my driftwood. They also dont go up to eat the flakes they WAIT until the food goes back down to them.

Well, I know my male betta definitely does not make the cut. I literally have to point at his food several times for him to find it. "it's right there fishy. No there. See, look, right over your head... no, not over there"

The girls in the betta sorority are a bit smarter, they can actually distinguish between mirror reflections and real fish.
all brawn no brain.(no offence)

Upload a couple pics of your elephant nose fish!
Sorry, I don't own an Elephant Nose. I was just giving my answer on the smartest fish. I'd like to get one someday, though. They're very interesting fish for sure.

my betta s pretty smart , he lemme touch him ,and seems enjoy it very much but never let anybody else touch him , one time some thing was stock in his mouth and he just came op and look at me like he wanted to say something , i catch him by hand to take the stock thing out and he didn t move abit in my hands until i took that out :) ... i feed the fishes with a spoon and he s the only fish that come up and eat directly from the spoon , even angels are afraidin from the spoon , and he never fight with his reflection in the mirror !
that s him :
