IT has BEGUN!!!

Hey guys! Long time no see right! the last two months have been hell for me, so I've been bussy with work and school as well as keeping the tanks from falling apart. Anyway I haven't made any more progress on this tank yet :/ but soon! I promise!! I have the ability to hook up heaters now :) i finally found some heater suction cups :D The next thing will be filtration. I have very limited funds (spent 3k on my car.....) so i'll be trying to piece filters together from parts/filters i bought years ago. If that works out, i'll be able to get my marineland 350 up and running, which would give me an emperior 400 on the 75 (put the 350 on the 55g and move the emperior to the 75) I also have access to a cascade 500 canister filter but for the life of me I can't get that **** thing to stay running for more than a few days. Maybe i'm packing it too tight but i dunno. So that would give me two useable filters on the tank. I have a tetratec 350 somewhere that I haven't used in years and am missing a bunch of parts from. Im going to try and make a filter out of that since I have a nice heating module for it. giving me another high gph filter on the tank.

I also have a quietone pump and an old ge house filter that I'm thinking about making into another filter. the quietone is a 500gph so that should be enough pressure to move water through the filter without too much trouble. I will see what I can do with that tonight hopefully!

I want to get this tank up here soon, so i can Finally get fish into it! Now that things are slowing down again, I'll have more time to tinker with my tanks!!!

Thanks to all and I'll keep you posted!

Yes I agree some time Life likes to throw you under a buss haha!

Anyway tonight I've been able to salvage two filters, a penguin 200 and penguin 350. with luck I'll be able to get those running on the 55 gallon, 550 gph should be enough for that tank right!

that would free up my emperior 400 and H.O.T magnum giving me 650 gph on top of the two power heads which should pump out between 300 and 400 gph together. I am working now on building my canister filter with the quiet one. I am going to attempt to get that hooked into the jet system, so that would give me ALOT of power through the jets :D

I'll keep you all posted!

Good luck with that filters' homework!

Blah! Too much thinking haha! I wanted to get two AC 100's for the 75, but at 90 each, it's a little hard on the wallet. So I figured the emperior 400 should be good with another filter which will be the HOT. I used to run this combo on the 75 before I broke it down. So it should work nicely. Especially with the ugj system and the water scrubber i'm building.

THe next thing will be determinig if the 55 will be ok with just the penguin 350 and 200. Worse case I'll buy a better filter for the 55, or rebuild yet another filter (i have a huge stash of whisper parts) to help out.

So it looks like tonight I will be playing musical filters!!!!

So yea, pics!

So what's the pvc for?

Well I have taken the parts and built a filter. I'm working as we speak on making a mount for the whole thing then I need to plumb up the pipes, and glue them all together!

You have just blown me away!! Awesome. My biggest project has been a custom hood for a 14 tall lol. About to set up a pauldarium so your advice on plumbing may come in handy!

Always fun to have a project!!! =D Keep us posted! I will be watching!

<---- cant wait til you get is stocked!

yea i'm going with 3/4" hard pluming. Trying to limit my use of 90 degree bends as much as possible. every 90 reduces flow by i think 25% i may me wrong. SO instead I'm using two 45's which wont limit flow nearly as much. The quiet one 500 does a decent job with those black filters. I dropped the whole thing into the tank last night to test and it pushed a decent ammount of water through. I am using gravity to help the pump, haveing the pump push water through the filter instead of pulling it through the filter. This should help keep the pump from blowing up. Now the filter does reduce it' flow something severe, but it's got to be pushing out alteast 300 gph through that filter. I have a spare core lying around, so I might just wrap that with filter floss and put that in, which would bump my flow back up to around 500. I think i'll keep the combo of filters I have on there, to make sure the 55 has enough filtration. Next time I have the hot off, i might swap it out to see what the 55 does without it. But For now, the tanks about done! Ill have the plumbing done tomorrow, and the tank is currently cycling with bio media from the 55.
