Last night after getting countless advice on catching her, I finally got my holding Rusty out of the main tank. Used the flashlight after dark with a net in each hand and the small maglight in my mouth! I tried to strip her, but being small, it was way too stressful for both of us:irked:, so I left her in my 10g. Woke up this morning to momma and what I thought were 6 or 7 fry. I have an AC20 on the tank with a sponge over the intake and the flow down as far as it will go. After thinking about the posts I've read in the past about fry in the filter, I decided to just open mine as a precaution. Sure enough, 3 more alive in there. The sponge pre-filter was slit on the back, so I took it off and put rubber bands around it to close the slit. Seems to be OK. So the final tally is 10 fry confirmed! I fed them some crushed spirulina flake and I have BBS hatching now. And now my larger female seems to be holding a boatload of eggs.

Cool deal.. my wild caught Hecqui just had a batch of babies as well F1 this is her first spawn.. Good job buddy..

Congrats and enjoy them!

Congrats!

Thanks everyone. Now I'm wondering how the heck you know if these little guys are eating!

Way to go. As far as stripping them go, I have to strip my Yellow Labs. The first time was rough but I managed. The second time went better and now the third time was a snap. You'll get the hang of it.

I keep my fry in a bare bottom tank. The food settles on it and eventually it all disappears. It's going some where and it ain't the filter!. (Besides, the fry are getting bigger).

Thanks ex. I think because she was so small is why I had a hard time. I can definately see it being easier once she's bigger. Unfortunately, my tank isn't bare bottom. I tried to set it up as close to my main tank as possible with pool filter sand and a black background. I have seen a couple of them pick at the crushed flake on the surface, but I worry their not all getting it. Do you just float it on the surface or move it into the water more?
