Jay's Planted 180g Tank.

Glad I'm not the only one who lets things grow rampant from time to time.

Photos of overgrown tanks anyone?

Would have been interesting to see a picture of how bad it got. That's a big tank to take care of properly for sure.

Ask and you should receive... LOL

Although I didn't catch it from the beginning of my efforts I did put 1 bucket of the hair algae in one of my 55g bare tanks I have to get a pic of... instant green...LOL

Parva a mess H2O and Metrice doing its job you see it turning grey.

Here's one softball size to order.

Here's the light at the end of the tunnel, I've got a 2x2 foot square of nana petite that's cleaning up pretty good.

I'll try to get some update pics tonight.

This is the best I can do picture wise since I can not control the sunlight coming into the room. I don't judge the scape just yet not still have a lot of gravel to clean. I hoping my C. parva will rebound, need more driftwood to finalize the right side before I can really think of plants. I've never done well with Alternanthera reieckii in the past so when I saw it at Petco I figured I'd give it a shot again. It's definitely settled in so I'll have to move it from the front to back. I've got more nana petite I need to weigh down and various crypts not sure where to put but I have plenty of room.

Here's the work in progress.

Jay, it's already looking fantastic again!! What are those fish, they're very nice?

What other species of plants do you plan to add? any other fish going in as well?

Thank you Royws3.

These are my fish breeding group of Columbian Tetra (4 have survived to adult)

I also had to pairs m/f of apistos in there 1 hongsloi and 1viejita but I lost 1 fish from each of the pairs so there's no hope of babies.

I also have a group (down to 4) of sterbia cory (which stop breeding), 3 long fin BN trio, 1 GBR, 2 otts, 3 female Wag platies (which recently had babies survive), not sure how many RCS remain but I find them in the sump from time to time, and snails out the wahzoo.

As far as plants I need to settle on hardscape to determine what plants wii work an alternative to the Vals might be Cyperus helferi. I'm also considering putting Staurogyne repens (which is doing well in my 45L) between the parva and nana petite. In order to breakup the green of the A. nana bush on the back wall I plan on getting Buce somewhere down the line in either purple, red or silver not sure which.

I like the driftwood in this corner basically Alternanthera reieckii to the mid to background and putting Staurogyne repens in between there.

This nana bush (middle tank pic is cropped) on the driftwood needs to be thinned out and it's where I'd like to add color Buce plants should work since they are similar from what I'm told.

Haven't thought out the right side need the hardscape first before I start bouncing ideas.

Open to suggestions keep in mind I prefer low maintenance this tank isn't the easiest to work on so I don't want fast growers I have to trim every week.

I replaced my Vals with C. Balanse because I am using a liquid carbon supplement that melts the Vals. I'm happy with the crypts and will probable get more. If your looking to do low maintenance, I'd look to incorporate as many rosette species as I could - blyxa, crypts, echinodorus sp., etc. maybe Bolbitis or hygro pinnatifida. I'd avoid Sag or Vals or E. Tenellus because they send out runners to quickly

Your tank is beautiful, and coming back nicely. I have had problems with hair algae too. It's one of those things if you get it, and let it slide for a little bit, you will have buckets of it. Great tank.
