Only a week left before I head back to school. Definitely not looking forward to packing up two CP tanks and one currently full of water...

yeah tell me about it. I'm looking at a potential move within the next 3-6 months, and have 13 planted wet enclosures that would need moving. not even easy to imagine.

Awesome plants as usual! I feel you on the moving. I have to get 3-4 pots of Sarracenia, 2 dew terrariums, and an overgrown ventrata down to Newport News.....

I'm thinking about maybe moving some things over to shelves that currently aren't being used and giving that a go so I don't need the tanks actually setup. Problem is that the shelves are an awkward size/shape and not exactly conducive to mounting anything other than clamp lights. I will be experimenting when I get there, for sure. It would be so nice to just put the 15 gal on my dresser again, the 10 gal on my desk and have that much extra floor space.

So I've been thinking more about the shelving idea and maybe getting actual shelves for the plants and ditching the tanks completely. Good idea? I'm mainly concerned about how I would get the lighting done.

lighting is pretty easy to hang. what kind of shelves?

Just the cheap, metal shelving. Something similar to this:

Also, would something similar to that support a 10 gallon aquarium (aka filled with water)?

I mean, Inka has the metro wire version of those, and has several 20 longs on each. I think they're pretty strong with or without additional wood. They're also super easy to hang lights from, since you can just use zip ties to the shelf above.

Ideal? I dunno. strong enough for a 10g? I'd say so. That's only 80-90 pounds.
