Keeping Robin's off cars?? A Poo Situation...

We had the same problem with a Bluebird this spring. I was going to pull down the birdhouse so they would leave but a sparrow moved in and scared him off. Fixed my problem.

This might sound counter productive but try adding a bird feeder, it will bring other birds around for him to worry about.

That actually sounds brilliant!!! Perhaps if they had other birds to worry about they wouldn't be worried about the bird reflected in the windows and mirror. The bad thing is robins do not generally eat at feeders because of the worm/insect/berry diet but maybe just the starlings, doves and cardinals would give them cause for concern. I actually have a bird feeder out in the shed somewhere. I will let you know if it works.

I really am trying to do everything I can aside from killing them or have the situation of my husband killing another one. Honestly though, if he has the opportunity he will kill one no matter my objections. He is furious with the damage.

bird feeder sounds like a great idea, birdhouse too, my grandpa built us a swallow apartment building (seriously had like 34 nests in it) and we put it out on the lawn on a 4x4 post, those guys kept bugs and birds well away by swarming them.

Actually...it is bird related. I tripped over the garden hose whilst I was trying to rinse off my husbands work truck! This is the 3rd time I have fractured this wrist. I went to ER tonight, go to my orthopedic doc on Monday. :(
These birds REALLY have to go...and I am the most un-graceful person ever!!
I was actually sitting waiting for the doctor tonight and started laughing out loud. I don't care if this makes me sound cruel, or if people think that I just want to do it for my own "comfort", but I want these birds DEAD!:FIREdevil:

P.S. I still can't figure out how trying to stop thousands of dollars in property damage is considered a "comfort" measure. :irked: And NO, I am not blaming the birds for my clumsiness but I do blame them because they are the reason I was in the situation...grrrr.

P.P.S. Thank you for the suggestion about the manikin head, Lady G!! I think we will go up to the thrift store tomorrow and see. My daughter has promised to lend me a hand in the making of our scarerobin since I am down one. ;)

LOL, I'm sorry but I did just laugh a little (only because it is something that would happen to me), but when I read you hurt your wrist I totally visioned you running out to scare the birds off and tripping over something then hurting your wrist in the process (again...something I would do) :D

Ices idea sounds like a great idea!

Pssst....Hi Fozzy

hey G! *waves*

It's okay. I can laugh about it. This is the third time I've fractured this wrist in the past 7 years. I'm tall (6') so I'm all arms and legs and my brain can never get them to work together! At least that is my excuse for clumsiness. First time I fell off the roof of the chicken coop while replacing shingles, second time I was running up the front steps and lost my footing, and now a water hose is my un-doing. Graceful is a word that will never be used to describe me:o

I had great plans last night of getting the feeder out and working on the scarerobin with my daughter. Today the muscle relaxers and pain meds have worn off and I can honestly say I will probably be parking my butt indoors all day. ugh.

Fozzy..I have oodles of barn swallows around. They have taken up residence in my daughters old playhouse. The nest are fascinating and they are such pretty birds. My son did make me a bluebird house in woodshop I need to hang up. There is a nest in every tree and shrub around here this time of year but because our property is spread out over 5 acres none of them are close to the driveway. It does make mowing fun..you give dive bombed by birds at random intervals throughout the yard as you are mowing along.

LOL, I must be "tall" in my mind then...only 5'1" here and I do the same thing :)

do the birds still land on the mirrors if you 'fold' the mirror?

Yes they do. We tried that the first year and again this year. They are determined, I'll give them that.

I was sitting on the couch early this morning having a cup of coffee with my husband before he went to work, and the birds were outside singing their morning songs. He turns to me and says "Do you hear that? It's the robins....and I'm pretty sure they are laughing at you!" :P

I guess I am just a jerk. I use a 5,000 watt bug zapper placed over my pond. My Koi like their dinner medium well. They come out of the deep once they start hearing the zapping noise looking for bugs.. Pretty funny.
