Keeping Robin's off cars?? A Poo Situation...

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions (and making me laugh about it :)). I really appreciate it. It seems to have turned into a huge comedy of errors. There is me running around outside trying all kinds of crazy things to keep them off the vehicles and arguing with my husband since he just wants to blast any robin that lands within a two acre radius of the yard.

So far the only thing I have managed to accomplish is a distal radius fracture in my left wrist and a trip to the ER. The robins continue to sit and poo...and poo...and poo...and mock me.

nerdyrcdriver- I'm sorry. I realize that your post was entirely in jest and not at my expense..well maybe.. but it was not intended to be mean! :D I blame the fact that I read it while my brain was floating in a wash of vicoden and tizanadine. I've switched to plain old advil now.

My daughter and I are in the planning stages of our scarerobin and hope to finish it today. Husband has promised not to shoot anything else until I have given this a go. Not that I think it would do more than scare them off...he's a HORRIBLE shot.

On the upswing. I was sitting on the back deck drinking coffee this morning, hoping my presence would scare away the robins and I watched a pair of Canadian Geese walk their 3 wee goslings through the yard and across out into the huge field. I'm not sure where they came from and even less sure on where they were going since ponds are few and far between in this area, but it was really cool to watch.

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone!! If anyone comes up with a great idea, PLEASE let me know. Until then..the battle continues.

Just wait until you start slipping on Goose poo! Just remember Geese are federally protected so if you plan anything against them don't mention it online!

?? You can hunt Geese. They just have to be in season and you must have a hunting license

Luckily, the geese were just passing through on their way to greener pastures. It was cute watching the babies following momma and daddy. I guarantee if there is goose poo in the yard, I will find it and slip in/on it though.

We did manage to put together a dummy. It's sitting out in the yard in a lawn chair. Every time a strong breeze comes up it's stuffed pillow case head goes rolling across the lawn. I'm not sure how scary it is to the robins but it is rather terrifying for visitors. :uhoh:

LOL, well if they do think it is human....having it's head come off and fly across the yard, should scare them I would think :D

I read something yesterday and I'm not sure if it would work or even be something you would want to try, but it was about a person who had a problem with a robin at their window it was suggested to them to take soap or something like soap and rub it all over the window to obstruct the robins view of itself...according to the OP of the question they tried it and it did work? In the same thread someone else suggested getting decals and applying them to the window.

I guess I am just a jerk. I use a 5,000 watt bug zapper placed over my pond. My Koi like their dinner medium well. They come out of the deep once they start hearing the zapping noise looking for bugs.. Pretty funny.

If you're too squeamish or not a good enough shot to simply institute a campaign of edification towards the local Robin population then you could probably rig up a system of these to do the trick:

I bet that Fishfriend1 (Travis) could help you in this regard. Designing and building overly complicated systems of spraying water all over the place is right up his alley!

First off, I DID manage to get the tank full again, so I'd say the water was worth it. Plus it was really hot out, so I wasn't complaining. Secondly, I do agree, those sprinklers are what I was thinking of. Stick a few near the cars or maybe on the and the problem be solved.

I rarely LOL but when I do, it's usually about FF1.

im sorry you are having so much trouble with robins. on another note about geese i was attacked by them once freshmen year of college and acting in self defence i kicked one in the chest and it just collapsed, pretty sure i killed it :( i felt so bad but they charged me for walking on the path back to my dorm. the goose never got up :(. so i havent had good experiences with wild birds. maybe dress up in a giant bear suit and try to scare them away. or a scarecrow could work as well. ALSO if you can somehow attract a hawk or falcon or some other bird predator you could scare them away. maybe put a recording of falcon noises on a boombox outside to scare them away.

Then you will have a hawk or falcon problem! How would you get rid of those? Red tail hawk sammich?

Set out a skillet near their nests and toss a few robin eggs in it Maybe they will get the hint. Since robins are mainly ground feeders an open nesters try to find their nests. Remove nets an bye bye birdie
