Did you know that in the wild BKG only live on daphnia and copepods?
Fasinating.
Found this about the subject of daphnia & copepods at The Skeptical Aquarist. Any idea on how to cultivate these two for feeding BGK's & other fish?

I'm pretty sure daphnia are 'water fleas' and you can culture them for fish feeding. I've seen a few sites online that will sell cultures of daphnia. Copepods are tiny microscopal sized crustaceons that grow naturally in lakes ponds and rivers from what I gather.... Apparently they are present in our tank water already, microscope size, there are different varieties and I'd assume that the African type from the Orinoco River would be tropical and so, not common here. Some copepods can be as big as 10-12mm or so, I've read. I would think those are the ones bkg

Nuriel; very nice indeed. Can't wait to get my own.

SF; Good link. I might try to raise my own in a plants only tank and then feed them to the fish.

Ya defiantely an awesome idea, as you can see i have a post on fry going, thats a thought too! Are those yours Nuiel? I was thinking of a brown once, but they are small right!?!?

I find my BGK to swim all over the tank now during the day! He likes to swim vertical and upside down sometimes, he is really goofy, and now that I bought brine shrimp, he is one of the first ones out when he heres the kurplunk!

Favourite fish

I've got a bgk named Captain Jack after Pirates of the Carribean. He's really attractive, but yeah, kinda shy. I couldn't find anything for him to hide in when he outgrew his little cave, so I had someone cut the ends off a large wine bottle, really smooth out the ends and threw a plant in front. He likes it, but now he has to fight off the pleco for the space, so I guess I'll get a second cave made up. For food, I drop in a block of frozen glass worms in every day. You can hear him snapping through the 1/2" glass.

835, Awesome, otherwise what you could use is a 2 liter bottle with the ends off! little bigger and maybe safer incase the one edge isn't all smooth! Have any pictures of jack? how long have you had him? how big is he?

Party in my tank last night. Lots of plants moved around, some floating even. I found the three partiers sleeping together beside the filter intake this morning. When I put the lights on mad dash to the cave. Pictus cat, clown pleco and Spook (bkg). I'm not putting no wine bottle in there no way no how......I think they're already having way too much fun! ;)

HAHA you know its bad if you put the wine bottle in there and then next day you find it outside the tank, then you wonder what kinda party they are throwing!

BAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!! Oh Man!!!! That reminds me, earlier this year I had my ex who lived in NY came in from town staying the night, we drank  and smoked a couple of you know whats:thud: ....He had been asking me if I ever give my mbuna feeders which I told him no, they were vegetarian. Well, the next day I left him there when I went and picked up another friend. Came back 20 minutes later and checked the tanks- saw a big piece of a mary jane budd floating around my tank!!! I was so freekin FURIOUS!!!! :mad2 (as you can imagine!) It was funny though, all the mbuna were completely ignoring it. HAHAHAH I guess they know what is safe to eat and what is a potentially nasty bite. When I demanded to know why he put it in he denied it but I know better, my tank is pristine when it comes to foriegn mari j floaters. So be it, that was his last time at my house ever. Geeze, its not like we are teenagers, Im 24 and he is 25 and has two turtles which he gaurds with his life so its not like he doesnt understand the value of a pet. What a jack***zzz!!!! :mad2 So that was a bit off topic....
:soda:

Yes, the brown knife is mine. I do like them as they dont get as big, 8 inches I have heard. Mine is about six now and is doing fine in a 29 gallon. I have had him since July and he has grown about two inches since. I feed him frozen bloodworms, live earthworms, freeze dried shrimps and I believe he also eats the food I feed my loaches (shrimp pellets, flake, sinking wafers).
I would love to have a great white knife like I saw in the previous pics, what a beauty!!!
