L-10a fry pics

Latest pics, they're now past the critical first month and measure 5/8-3/4" total length. Naturally some are bigger than others, but they're all looking fat and sassy (relatively speaking, LOL.)

The adults have spawned twice more, but both times the eggs disappeared within a couple days. The second time I moved the tube with the male and the remaining eggs into the 10 gallon with the fry, but they were all gone the next day. Looks like I'll have to separate them for hatching. I can't understand why the male did such a good job with one brood, and not the successive ones.

Looking great!

No way to get a head count, the tank is stuffed with Najas. I'd estimate several dozen, will find out exactly in another couple weeks when I move them to a larger tank. I want to let them reach 1" before moving them, and even then I'll be using a brine shrimp net.

I just finished cleaning the 10 gallon, and swapped out little the Wal-Mart hob filter for an aquaclear 20. The fry are close to 1" now, getting easier to see w/out leaving noseprints on the glass, and I figure a little stronger circulation will be good for them. I tried to count them while I had the mass of Najas sitting in a bucket, but they don't hold still when they're excited. Looks like somewhere between 24-30, I'll get an accurate count when I move them into a larger growout tank next week.
One of the males has quite a good number of new eggs in a tube, looks like several females contributed, and there's another that's very plump. I'll be moving the tube to the 10 gallon before the eggs hatch, hoping the male doesn't start eating them again like the last 2 rounds. If the clump starts looking smaller I'll pull the tube and leave the male behind sooner, but I'd rather wait until they're closer to hatching. He can take care of any infertile or fungused eggs inside that small pvc tube much better than I can.

The first batch of fry have been moved out of the 10 and into the 38 with the breeding group. Finally got a head count, total of 37 from .75-1" long. The tube holding the new eggs and the male tending them are now in the 10, and they should hatch in another day or two. They're very brown now, the babies are clearly wel-developed, but I didn't want to disturb the male any more than necessary by taking pics after I moved them.
Here's a few pics of the fry in the transfer container:

Pretty decent growth rate, considering how small they were when they hatched about two months ago. They should be big enough to ship by April-May if they continue to grow at the same rate. You can see the variation in size among them, it remains to be seen how the larger tank with stronger water flow will affect that.

They look great!
