Let’s Talk Fertilizer & Schedule ( again)

Every time I see reference to 'a good quality liquid test kit' I cringe just a little.

But you are doing good. Just keep the faith!

I just want to remind you that a half dose of any med may take much longer than a "full" dose. I often dose half in the am & half again in the pm (or vice vs) just to be sure fish can tolerate the med. Any signs of distress & it's a big WC & back to half dosing. How are the corys doing?

The corys are doing well And eating at every opportunity lol. I hadn’t thought of that but your absolutely right. I figured like you say a week after any symptoms so this just makes the total dosing day’s longer. But at half dose that probably could have been expected.

While we're all staying home, maybe try upping the dose to a full dose in the am. Check often & be ready to do WCs if they seem stressed out (hanging at the surface, breathing fast, darting around, etc.) We all want this to be over for you so we can get back to pretty plants, tank & fert discussion ;)

Like I said I'm not a super fan of the med you have but just keep going! & when it's time to remove it go fairly slow because of the salt & TDS; carbon will remove the other stuff.

Good morning, So it was dose day this morning, I went a little heavy handed with the meds not quite a full dose just a tad heavier. BUT prior to dosing I checked the tank and rams well and for the 1st day I see zero specks or spots. So we’re headed in the right direction!! Woot woot. I will continue to dose as suggested but this means the days can actually start counting now!! :)
I would like to purchase a better quality medicine to have in case. What product would be good? I would like to have a heavy hitter on on hand so I can replace what I have. In case this happens again.
I have fish and temp questions but I am gonna start a thread for that.

You're getting there!

I haven't had ich for many years (knock wood). I used to keep malachite green around but think I finally tossed it, it was ancient. You can use regular table salt, even iodized is ok. The trick is to add it over several days until you get to a full dose (I'm not sure of the dose). Then every time you do a WC you have to figure out how much salt to add to get back to where it needs to be. It's the usual length of tx then you need to slowly remove it with WCs over several days. Almost everyone has salt all the time so no emergency run to lfs, it's cheap & it never goes bad!

But you don't want to use salt or many medications in a planted tank with sensitive fish and/or invertebrates. The real question is do you want to treat the whole tank or a hospital tank? I am so glad for some of the natural medications, that would have been great to have that 30, 40 years ago.
