A very nice small and welcoming shop with a good selection of fish. their fish are all in separate tanks running on UGFs which is nice compared to central filtration.

Its a nice sized shop thats kept pretty clean and they have a great selection of supplies but i tend not to buy fish from there due to central filtration and ive had a few weird ones from there. they do have a good selection of rainbows though. its a small chain with only a few locations but i wasnt able to find out which number it is.

Trop Aquarium

Las Vegas, NV 89120

This is one of my favorite places they have hard to find fish. Are very knowledgable. Prices are fair.

Fish Tropical
300 South Bruce Street
Las Vegas, NV 89101
(702) 388-0080

This place is also a very good place to shop for fish. The prices are some of the cheapest
I've seen.

Atlantis Tropical Fish & Aquariums
1930 North Rock Springs Drive
Las Vegas, NV 89128

This place is also great, they also have fish I haven't found at the other lfs. There
prices are a bit higher than the other lfs I shop but are very clean. Fish are always looking
great

Mom and Dad's
South Warwood Ave.
Wheeling, WV

Don't know actual address, but you can't miss their bright green awning.

Not a fancy store, no flash, but clean and organized and very friendly folks. Usually very cheap, but healthy fish. Recently bought rummynose tetras there for $2 versus the $4 at other local, bigger name LFS's.

It is very much like its name, it's a mom and pop type shop.

I did check this place out and its still there as of February this year. The guy that runs the shop knows little to nothing about fish. Just make sure you do your research before buying fish from this guy or the other 2 that work there. Aside from that he's got a decent selection of FW and SW fish and did say he can special order fish if wanted. There is also a few random reptiles, rodents and birds.

Interesting to see about 20 pages back a similarly named place in Bowling Green KY, not all that far (250 miles maybe?) from here. But a search only turned up one other place in Tennessee, and that in Nashville, which is 100 miles from me. So I would like to mention:

Fishy Business
911 E Church St # E
Lexington, TN 38351 US (731) 968-0079

It's the only lfs I know of between Memphis and Nashville*. On the north side of Rt. 412 as you head east out of town. In a strip mall called Jones Plaza.

Little bitty place. About 2/3 of it is sw; of the remaining third FW fish share space with a wall of birds, snakes, lizards, other small pets; and the middle is display space for big (say 50g and up) aquaria with stands and such.

Not the greatest selection, basic fish mostly. And very little in the way of plants. Used to sell at least ghost shrimp but not even those any more. No snails. However the owner will try to get special requests in from his supplier if you ask.

It's enough of a wonder that a tiny little town like Lexington has a LFS at all, I suppose. Without him I'd be stuck with mailorder, cuz I am not driving 200 miles to Nashville and back to get a tetra. :)

Walmart in Huntingdon TN used to carry fish but got rid of their tanks a year or two ago. (Trying to be polite I will confine myself to saying this is no great loss.) However they do still have supplies such as food, heaters, air pumps, etc. Plus they sell rather nice basic 1-10g tanks and refills for filters & such for what they sell.

*editing to say that there is a PetSmart and PetCo in Jackson TN and they may sell fish. Havent' been there in awhile so can't say for sure. My car is old and decrepit so I do not put it on the interstate if I can avoid it. :)

Maryland:
Tom's Tropicals

Slightly expensive, but awesome fish. They have a (130?) gallon angel tank and another big one with a pair of huge gouramis and severums.

Check Out Ely's aquatic farm. Not as nice of a set up as the pet shanty, but their selection of freshwater fish and knowledge more than makes up for it. it only about 30 min from the pet shanty

See website for hours.

I used to go to Nature pet center (chain store addy: 1500 atwater).
2 out of 10 employees know fish.
I overheard one of thier salespeople tell someone they can have one fish from every inch of the size of their aquarium ?!?!
I got friendly enough with the 2 guys that knew about fish that they started admitting things..
For example;
They get seconds on plants (first delivered to another store then the remainders are shipped to them).
Some plants are not even aquatic.
They do not quarentine new arivals.
So after hearing this and seeing the attitudes of the other salespeople I was kind of depressed but planned on buying the items I came for anyway.
I said to the fish guy it's a shame their is no real LFS in our area.
He looked around and said to come see him on my way out... (hmmm ok?)
So on my way out I go see him and he gives me a little peice of paper with the name aquarius on it.
After a little 411 search I found the store about 40 minutes from my place.
OMG this store is awesome!
Aquarius has as many tanks in the basement as they have on display.
Every fish is quarentined until it is cleared ( eating, no deaths or disease)
Their plant selection is awesome! what I payed 5.99 for at the other place I got for 1.77!

The emplyoye that served me spent an hour with me speaking about every fish in the entire store that would blend with my existing fish.
In great detail, tank location prefered by the fish, temperament etc etc.
As I was buying several plants he asked about my lighting and co2.
We talked about lighting upgrade posibilities.
He asked if I had charcoal in my filters (i do in the fluval) he advised me to remove it and replace with purigen which will not kill the ferts I am adding. (wow what service!)

I should stop rambling but I had a great experience and have found my number 1 store.

p.s: He also gave me loyal customer card. For every 25$ spent get a punch after 10 free gift, after 20 5% off until level 3 is reached and level 3 is 10% off ontop of any sale price for a year. (sweet bonus)

So anybody in Quebec Canada Aquarius is your store!
