The owner of this store is Mike Yacoub. The first time I visited this store was at around March 08, and shortly after the store started moving to a bigger location right across the street. They have a lot of freshwater, saltwater, and brackish fish along with a large selection of corals, anemones, frags, and more. A bit more expensive than the surrounding Petsmarts and Petcos, but overall the selection makes up for it and the staff is quite knowledgeable for the most part, and they've got fish you definitively won't find commonly.

My only grievance was when I was still pretty new to the hobby, a lady who I actually haven't seen ever since sold me a powder blue jack dempsey claiming that it was very peaceful and would get along with my angelfish. No comments on that since it was stupid for me to believe it, but eh...

They're still bringing in more things to the new location and it's looking great -- I also noticed they're improving their reptile selection. I haven't really seen the bird section that well yet but they've got very talkative animals from what I hear when I'm staring at the fish a few aisles over. ;)

Hours - Not sure, but I know they are essentially open when the fish lights are on, which is every day.

It's a really businessy(but this is DFW, after all), saltwater-centric website, but the store is just amazing. No common fishes here, so you won't find goldfish, guppies etc here. The owner's tank is a MUST SEE, as it is exceptionally large, saltwater, full of life, and no filters added!!

Truly a class of it's own.

Great shop. Staff a pretty knowledgeable about the specimens. They really advise about the size of a fish so unknowing people don't buy extremely large fish. If they don't have, they can usually special order it for you. They sell freshwater and saltwater fish.

Pretty awesome shop. They have a pretty great selection of both freshwater and saltwater. They know quite a bit about their creatures as well. Have a 400gallon saltwater tank with a Green Moray Eel. :D

This is the only dedicated fish store I know of in the area. They have a decent selection of sw but more fw, with the emphasis on african and ca/sa cichilds. They definitly know there fish and would rather tell you that an oscar needs atleast a 75 then sell you a ton of fish. Each tank has its own filtration, nothing centralized. Equipment prices are high but hikari food and fish are great deals. Have a better selection on fish then most big chain stores but rarely have a rare fish unless its a trade in, which they are very lenient with since they care about fish.

Recently moved into a new larger store (where Savers used to be). They've been around since the 70s, and started out as a fish only store, I guess. Wasn't born yet, lol. I actually ended up talking to the owner when I bought my 75g stand. He actually knew about the physics of the stand (that they support the weight at the corners, etc) and had actually put some thought into which stands he carries because he didn't like all the knots in a certain stand because they dry up quicker than the rest of the wood and create weak points. I didn't get to talk to him about the fish or anything, but I've never seen a dead fish (other than in the feeder tanks) or even ones that look sick. Price is okay, a little higher than others in the area, but quality is pretty good. Best selection of fish in the area.

They do carry other pet supplies in addition to carrying birds, gerbils, etc and puppies. I'm not sure where the puppies come from, but that makes me nervous. I don't like buying from anywhere that does that because I want to see the parents and the conditions and talk to the breeder. Makes me wonder about puppy mills. At least the fish seem good. I just don't buy my dog supplies there (at least until I find out whether or not they come from puppy mills).

I found this from another poster here so decided to make a little trip and check it out after looking at their website.

First off, this place is huge, its basicly the entire strip mall turned into one store. They are currently still under construction so it will be interestign to see how they end up.

the good- IF you are a reptil lover this place is great, not only are they a pet shop they also do a lot of educational stuff. Lots of big lizards, turtles and snakes. Their sale stock looked pretty good from what little i know about that subject. They also had a decent collection of birds including breeding stock.

onto the fish. they have a pond of larger fish, pacu's, oscars a few medium pleco's and a few other species. they also had a freshwater electric eel for sale. the saltwater stuff appeared clean and had a fairly good stock of species and corals including soem nurse sharks and some other larger species. They had a sizable selection of hardware, of foodstuffs less so.

the bad- When I arrived I was very impressed looking around, this is a neat place and the owners seem to really know there way around reptiles. Unfortuantly, it appears that while they might have put a little effort into the salt water selction, they seemed to care less about the freshwater. The freshwater section is realtivly small, and by far the electric eel and the large fish were the highlights. Virtually nothing was labaled compared to the total species, and tank space was very limited. aside from the lone EBJD and the regular JD's and parrots, the cichlid selection was "assorted South american" and "assorted Africans" all in the same tank. I am guessing around a dozen species all crammed into one small store tank. Many of the fish were well torn up. The rest of the selection was common pleco's, livebearers, a couple of angels, one long fin oscar, tetra's and sharks (happily beatign up on the tetra's they were with). While there were some interesting cichlids in the assorted tank and one of the angels was of moderate size, I felt the dekalb petsmart had a far better selection and certainly a much better layout for normal stock. Overall, I was extremly disapponted freshwater wise and I really hope the owners bring in someone who knows about freshwater tropicals. Theres a huge amount of potential and space to to expand into, but right now the freshwater selection is sorely lacking unless its your local shop with so many stores to the east, rockford to the west with its petland and dekalb with its decent petsmart so relativly close.
