Looking for a tankmate

 what jpappy said as well but a good side note if prepaired right the escargot is tastey with a leek potato soup, hehehe, later buddy take some photos so we can see your progress aye..

I'll probably go with 6 praecox.

If the lfs doesn't get my transcriptus in tomorrow, then I'll be ordering them online along with the multifasciatus within the next week.

I missed my delivery of shells so I'll be picking them up in person tomorrow. Six each Gold Mouth Turbos, Japanese Snail, Silver Mouth Turbo, and Whale Eye. Should I put all of these in for the lamp. multis?

I'm also going to get some more tufa tomorrow.

Also, what should I be looking for in the way of a cheap option for a second filter?

I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow.

what do you have in regards to filtration on this setup, if its a canister filter you could go to wal-mart and get one of those rena dual HOB filters as a second filter, i think they cost around 30 bucks or so, they work fine for me on my 55gal or a large hydor sponge filter tucked away in the setup, didnt you say you were getting 5 shellies if so if you add the shells you have that will be like 5 shells per fish ratio with the exception of one fish only having 4 shells really this is a issue you will need to come to terms on, i over do it on shells, my opinion is the more the better, but you can get away with 2 shells per fish, what you dont want to create is turmoil within the shell community hence adding extra is better in my opinion..

The only filter I have right now is a Whisper PF-60 HOB.

Yes, I'm planning on getting 5 shellies. So the 24 shells will work out just fine?

No fish this week. I did get 20 lbs. of tufa and my shells.

Have to leave for work in an hour, but I should have pics tomorrow.

A few more questions....

Should I place the tufa rock in front of the HOB intake or in front of the bubble wands that are along the back wall? I'm planning on putting the shells on the opposite end of the rocks.

Would it be ok to get the six rainbows now and add the transcriptus and shellies together in a couple weeks?

What about getting some plants for the rainbows? I've read that they like plants....floating or planted.

its a matter of taste for your self try both and see what appeals to you but if i had to say, i would place the tufa just in front of the bubble wand.

yes you could most def get the rainbows now and then add the cichlids later, this will be good for the rainbows to establish their hierarchy.

if the plants appeal to you than yeah i would and i bet it would look sweet, anubias and java are good start for plants.

since you have a HOB filter and you still need to ad another type of filtration i would go with a canister filter, rena is what i use for my big setups you could go with a rena XP2 or XP3 but its your choice and money..

good deal buddy i wish you good luck with your setup..

I was thinking the same thing.....using the tufa to "cover" the bubble wand. I'll probably hold off on the plants for awhile, but would like to try them eventually.

Yeah....I spent some time looking into canister filters tonight and will probably go with the Eheim-2213 from PetSmart.

Have a busy weekend ahead of me, but will try to get the rocks and shells in the tank tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help!

Alright....got the rocks and shells put in. I also grabbed a java fern and anubias this morning and put them in. Having problems with the bubble bar so I took it out until I have more time to mess with it. Here's a couple pics of the tank.
