Mafia #70: The Time Vortex

Rather than pulling a bunch of posts and commenting individually, I'm going to again go for the summary...

Codewords: I don't buy into the codewords thing. I think Jpap is smart enough to have changed them if they were used in this game. Possibly the agent names too, so I'm not putting any stock in the "fish/rat" theory at all.

Headline: I don't think Pappy would have given someone the journalist role without giving them some way to actually give reliable info to the town. Since the headline was given in the same post discussing the CIA agent, I'm willing to assume he's a good guy and would not post BS to the town. What I'm saying here is I'm leaning RB innocent at this point... as much as it hurts a little to do it.

Players:

Fishfriend - leaning FF slightly innocent atm. he went after HN and voted early, and he seems to be really trying to help the town.

Lady G - I vote to lynch Lady G. I'm not pulling any specific posts because it's more about patterns with her. She posts ad nauseum about figuring out what game day it is, while at the same time saying it shouldn't be our sole focus. Her accusatory posts to other players are basically regurgitated from things already said by other players. I'm just not buying the whole "look how stereotypical I am... blond and confused ". You may be blond Lady G, but I don't think you're half as confused as you want us to think. And heck, you basically dared me to, so... . I'm all about making people happy too!!!

Lab_rat - Labby seems helpful thus far. I can see the before nightfall "polling the town" being an innocent Labby trying to get thoughts out there before taking action. It wouldn't be the first time this sort of thing made her a suspect. For now I'm still willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

ZSandmann - Ogre's sure. I'm not so sure, but will keep looking.

Hooked Newbie - just had to keep him on the list for town bragging privileges. We got one! :headbang2::thm::dance:


Kashta - Kash seems really helpful. Leaning innocent for the time being.

The Wizard - I'm questioning my stance on Wiz at this point. He seems to have started the bush kicking he was talking about earlier. Still high on the list, but waivering.

Ogre - I'm not sure what to make of Ogre. I agree with a lot of what he's saying, but the post about Zsand makes me queasy.

I don't see my vote on LG moving. She's so scummy she's leaving a trail. Zsand and Wiz are probably the next 2 on the list. Not sure what order I'd put them in.

Ok, JB don't think I've used the "confused blond card" but if you say so. Rb and I joked about me being blond big deal. I double dog dare you to keep your vote on me :.

RB you know as well as I ppl say "in no order" all the time, most the time it is in order.
Still the fact remains, he posted in at least 5 different posts saying he thought it was me or someone else. Then adds a post that until then he didn't suspect me that much. THAT is what grabbed me. PPL suspect me in every game I play, use my words, and take things I say wrong all the time...I'm used to that calling me out isn't a big deal to me, putting a vote on me isn't either but to post that many about me THEN say you didn't really suspect me, come on Daddy O THAT doesn't sit very well.

Ogre is just feeling Z a better canidate right now for a lynch based on his experience of playing with him. You, Wiz, JL, Noods and Zaffy are on his top suspect list.

Ogre sees that several of us have or are leaning towards a vote on you so he stated he would be okay with a vote off between you two if the town decides to go that way.

Good thing he's ok with it

..and I do think Z's play this game is characteristic of what Ogre states...Ogre has been very good at nailing Z's roles in these games...wish I could be that perceptive.

Kash..your posts bring up some good points....but a thought has occurred to me..imagine that....

SETUP

The abilities of the scum and power roles vary based on which setup each day is based on. Players chosen to have a specific role will be PMed by me at the beginning of the day with instructions as to what they can do given their new "identity" within the time period. Innocent townies remain innocent townies for the entire round. Mafia will be able to hit, recruit, invest, etc. while town power roles may have the ability to invest, protect, hit, etc. Remember that everything is based on previous formats. I will provide a brief description of the time period the town is stuck in for the game days, which have all been predetermined by me.

I underlined several phrases. If I had written that, I know what I would have been meaning and I wouldn't have made it clearer, leaving the players guessing or assuming at their own risk.

To me, it means we will be stuck in certain games with certain power roles going on.

IT DOES NOT MEAN...that all power roles will be used, or that there might be more....IT ALSO DOES NOT MEAN their abilities will be the same at the same point of the day, as that game used them.

As for the headline, I kind of thought it a signal from jpap where the game might be going next....as Kash noted, the journalist was usually a day behind...but sometimes that role has been used by mods to get info out to the town.

Ok, thank you for your thoughts on the journalist. After reading Kash's response I agree.
Maybe I'm just thinking wrong on Z, ok I will admit that. Yes I know he has joked and not posted alot when evil...but he has done it innocent to. I just do not like the way Ogre came out and said "Z is Mafia" at first yes, I thought he was on to something and was ready to vote Z. Then thinking about it, I thought Z usually plays that way rather innocent or evil. After Ogre posted he didn't really suspect me even though he had posted over and over he had, well I think he is evil.

You're doing the exact same thing that you think I'm doing, so how does that help your case?

I'll point out that I have two reasons over and above my 'gut' feeling to vote Zsand.

Zsand is playing very much like he has in the past, when he's been mafia. He also wasted a vote on a UD. He also ignored the main topic of conversation during this day turn and voted for someone that everyone else has ignored (in terms of voting) today.

For those reasons, I choose to vote Z and move him to the head of the mafia list.

You however, I was more willing to give a pass on. Personally, I thought the whole 'code word' issue was bogus form the beginning. FISH!!! see?

However, your recent behavior (not the least of which is missing the three posts previously where I described my reasoning for voting Zsand (and including you on the suspect list) has really elevated you position in the mafia meter.


For now, I will leave me vote on Zsand.

I would REALLY, REALLY like to hear what others think of him as a mafia. However, if it looks like the voting for Z will go no further than me, I will (now) happily change my vote to LadyG, who, until now, I didn't suspect that much.

OTOH, I will continue to push for Z as mafia.

Here's what I think Ogre. I think you're right. I think Z's voting pattern and avoidance of the topic of LG and the code words is scummy.

I think LG's vehement defence of ZS is also quite scummy.

I have a question for many here...John, RB, Charlie, Mad have any of you played with Z where he didn't come on joking and BSing?
I'm not at all saying I think he is for sure innocent, because I'm not but for Ogre to come on and say that is the only time he plays like that...I don't think it is.

ZS has always been a joker LG. He often asks obscure questions to ellicit responses, and his roleplaying posts are quite humorous.

I don't think ZS is scummy because of his joking and BS'ing.

You have a grand total of 13 posts after 3 1/2 days of game play.

Not sure what the headline really meant, but I'm moving RB a little higher up my leaning innocent list as a result of HN's list and the headline.

I think a ZS/LG race will turn up a scumbag.

I agree with what Mad has posted in regards to ZS, he looks scummy, but not quite scummy enough to warrant my vote yet. I also agree with Mad and others that "fish" is a word that can be readily found in this thread and does not qualify to me as a codeword. The use of the word "rat" in caps however, does.

I truly think they may both be scumbags, but I'm going to vote LG.

I vote to lynch LG.

Let me try to explain... you're role in my list. I had you on the list as being potential mafia because I think that people with multiple votes who never voted Hooked Newbie were very likely mafia. There are a couple of reasons for this thought. One being that mafia may try to 'hide' or 'take the heat off' one of their own by implicating another player. If done with enough conviction and skill, there might be a sudden rush onto someone else. If that person comes up innocent, the day1 excuse is, of course, "Well, they looked evil to me."

But it didn't work out that way. We got a mafia on night one. There was a major push for two people. The Wiz and HN. If HN hadn't backed my vote on TheWiz, things might have come out completely differently. But he did and several people felt that was suspicious enough to vote him. Honestly, I didn't really agree, and I'm glad it went HN's way instead of TheWiz's.

That's why there are five people on the list that I posted very quickly after the new day began.

At that point, I had been following Z's posting for a while. He seemed to be playing more of a hiding game than not. The last two times (that I remember) him playing in this way, he was mafia. I believe that I have a tell on Z. I firmly believe he is mafia. There are other factors involved, which I have already posted three times.

Now, I would have perfectly happy with anyone else on my list being voted on and would have encouraged it. It happened that other players singled you out.

This was the gigantic discussion on the 'code words'. I personally feel that entire discussion was a complete waste of time. I really hope that the code words aren't the same as in the game that is being referenced... I would be very disappointed in Jpap.

For that reason I was willing to give you a pass and search elsewhere for mafia scum. I had lowered you on my list (BTW: I am very careful to try and type what I mean. If I say 'in no particular order, then I mean IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. That happens to be the order of the players of interest on my spreadhsheet (except for noods, whom I discovered met the criteria after I started the post)).

However, you have continued on this bizarre quest to justify Z and vilify me. All you had to do was say, "I disagree with you Ogre. Here's why..." Then list some reasons. Instead I get statements like "He said this, but then said this." as if we aren't allowed to change our minds. We also get your 'interpretation' of my posts... most of which are incorrect as has been pointed out to you several times... and not just by me.

So, you see, your own posts have gradually raised your 'mafia' standing in my book.

G, you're attacking me for my vote on Zsand. That is defending Z. You're vote on me is an "OMGUS for voting ZSand" vote. If that's not defending, I don't know what is.

You realize that if Z is mafia, that you're pretty much doomed.

Now, I'm done. If you can't come up with something else to say, then try to find someone who is a better candidate for lynching.

My vote on you is a OMGUS vote for Z? No, sorry it's not I clearly stated it was because you named me in several posts then added a post saying you didn't suspect me until that time.
