Mafia 88: Insane Asylum (Game Thread)

I vote to lynch Doomsday

I can't shake the feeling that his post to TH was a slip he hoped would go unnoticed. I myself missed it the first time reading through but it has been nagging me since.

Here are the things that stick out to me about Tib:

What do you mean "hide right out in the open"? Per the rules, the scum team is communicating with each other in an offsite thread that Mad provided. There would be no need for any secret messages, etc, which is the only thing that comes to mind with what you're implying. Additionally, that would be pretty stupid to try that for relaying messages, seeing as no one knows what languages everyone speaks. Not to mention, online translators are free if you need them.
This is Tib's response to my post about the spanish... seems like a bit of an overreaction to me. Then to say that I was implying secret codes and all. Could be getting nervous because the idle banter is beginning to end? I forgot to pull the post, but Tib even said that I was trying to set him/her up. Just seems like someone getting nervous.

You were the one who said something about hiding out in the open. My first reaction was that you were right, we should be done with the Spanish so that everyone can read everything without having to use an online translator if they don't know the language. Hence my first post to you.

After thinking about it though, I could not figure out what you meant by hiding out in the open. Therefore, I questioned you on it. So far, I haven't seen much usable content, in either the English or the Spanish posts. What sticks out so far is Scoop calling Wing Nut a guy (which I can now see his reasoning if he was referring to Mgamer) and you, with your "hiding in the open" comment.
My pointing out that it could be a place to hide seems to have struck a cord... wonder why? OMGUSSY much? You said yourself that you agreed we should be done with the spanish, but my saying it is apparently suspect.

Ok, I am so confused...aren't the rebels good guys? As in rebelling against the bad guys with the death star.

Here is my complete knowledge of star wars:
Bad: Emperor, jabba the hut, darth vader, the guys in the white plastic suits
Good: Jedis, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Yoda

Maybe you guys can educate me on Star Wars after the game, it's too close to nightfall to let myself get distracted from finding scum.

Nope. In fact I cheek my own meds as to have the clarity I need to sort out scum from all you crazies.
Then we go back to a ton of fluff posts (keep in mind at the time of this writing, Tib has the highest post count with most of it being feather bed posts) about movies and such, and then Tib begins to protest too much. Tib seems to be trying way to hard to convince the town that he/she is "scum hunting".

I'm just not comfortable with it. I'm going with my gut instinct... I vote to lynch Tib.

Vote Count (thru post 272) - red indicates that vote has been retracted

Scoop (2) - wing 168, Doom 196
Nar (2) - mael 240, gold 268
Nem (2) - Driver 261, HH 269
C-note (1) - O3T 192
Mael (1) - Nem 236
UhOh (1) - RICK 237
Doom (1) - UhOh 271
Tib (1) - C-note 272
O3T (0) - RICK 186

Reminder: No lynch if vote is tied at nightfall

Nightfall in a little under 4 1/2 hours (8:00 pm CST). PMs as required.

I'm struggling with my vote. Three of the people that initially caught my eye are all at two votes with everyone else on the block getting just one.

At this point I feel most comfortable going with my first gut instinct...

I vote to lynch scoop

I have no problem continuing to banter throughout the game, so no reason to be nervous about day 1 going from fluffy fluff towards a more serious note. In fact, I find that to be quite a fun part of the game. I do think you may have been trying to set me up. Not sure where you're getting OMGUS from, maybe you could clarify that. Also, I don't understand your statement about me protesting too much...where did I protest at all? I know how off on a fluffy tangent I can go, hence me saying I needed to get back on track since it's so close to nightfall. Sorry, but I don't like to screw around when it's so close to decision time, though maybe you would have preferred I continue on the fluffy tangent.

I have no problem with you voting on gut instinct, though your guts certainly seem to be telling you the wrong thing (maybe you ate something that didn't agree with them? Did you eat Lenore with Rickets?) I will likely be voting on gut instinct as well, since I haven't seen anything solid yet to vote on (not to mention, day 1 there is hardly anything solid). I'm going to think on my vote for another hour or so, but there is one person right now who seems to be dodging questions and distracting. My vote will likely land on them, though it's gut instinct.

Yes I see how it could be fluff but I still didn't see the need for it. Especially as it was your 2nd post. It was almost "random". And there is plenty of other things you can do to post fluff rather than scream your innocence.

I'm honestly torn between votes tonight. There isn't a massive amount to go on.

Yes there have been a few "slip ups" with people saying she or he. But that doesn't make them much scummier if at all in my view. But the people that bring these little things up in hope of attention on the person who made the mistake has my attention more so. So that's probably where my vote will land. I'll have a quick re read and place a vote.

Hammerhead, I took your original question as just that. A simple question. I didn’t second-guess your motive or turn this back around on you with a “why would you ask me that?” kind of response. You asked me (for whatever reason) and I answered you, then continued on to pull quotes and post other comments you chose to overlook.

Now I read this comment from you..above.

What began as some general distaste for role play posts or simple curiosity about me has today evolved into a full blown accusation that I made that post to scream my innocence. Whaaaaat??? Why in the world would you put THAT spin on this about any player on Day 1 if you are seriously looking out for the town’s benefit?

A role play post really is just that. If made by an innocent, it reveals nothing whatsoever. If made by scum, it tells us that they post lies in the game. Well, duh!!! Lol….who in this game doesn’t already expect this?

I vote to lynch Hammerhead 991

This is someone NOT playing a pro-town game.

well, I don't really see anything that can be called truly "scummy". Some Day 1 bantering, some spanish stuff that I don't understand, and some accusations. All said and told, a normal day 1. The accusations stand out most, and thats saying they actually stand out at all.

@Narwal: I agree, saying not to post is a bad thing, but where did nemesis actually say not to post?
@Gunslinger: Why does that conversation seem like early distancing? All I see is some Day 1 banter...

Fa, la la la la, De do dum de, Ga go gre gos, I'm not a nut, no I'm a super nut :D

It seemed that way to me because both had strong opinions on one side really going at each other.

[AC] Hammerhead 991;2588419 said:
Wow what a mess. To be honest, the biggest thing to go on will be tonights vote... Which we will have to keep a close eye on, especially if it's close.

wait what am i missing something or did you just leave us hanging on your thoughts thus far?

[AC] BadHaggis;2588545 said:
Interesting. Hammerhead, why is it that you focused on Chup's intro post and seemed to not notice the other 4 perfectly valid posts?

Those were some informative posts of Chup's.

@Gunslinger: So, just so you know and don't have to go back 2 pages to find it, Why does that conversation seem like early distancing? You know, from you post at #137.

answered.

I have reread the thread a few times and don't see much. Some day 1 gibberish, let's talk about pizza but not toppings.

About all that stands out is Scoop seems to be directing attention to wingnut and narwhal is directing attention to nemessis.

C-note seemed to dislike the spanish posts.

What one needs to consider/wonder are motives. Why would Scoop and Narwhal want to direct attention as they appear to be doing?

Are they scum trying to set up some innocents for lynching?

Are they innocents eager to try to find scum?

I seriously doubt that the scum would reveal themselves so early in the game by telling us to not post when from what I read it was in referrence to guessing who had what alias.(which can do us no good spending time trying to guess who is who when we need to look for scummy behavior)

I also doubt that scum would be so blatant as to mispell would twice in one sentance as Scoop has pointed out. What purpose would that serve?

I was thinking that it is a good thing that Mad gave us the option of voting no one or voting ourselves to avoid ud as I could not think of where my vote should fall. We do have a history of lynching innocents on day 1.

However, after reading today's posts, I do believe that my vote will most likely fall on Narwhal or Scoop.

not really liking that i know its been pointed out already but i just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

Perhaps we could get past the whole pronoun use thing too...don't see how it is at all productive to question someone referring to another as he or she. No one except the person being referred to knows if they are correct anyways so it can't really help or hurt anything. More likely than not people are using "he" because it's habit. Happens when new players join and people don't know their sex. People tend to just default to the masculine.

I couldn't agree more i am hating that people can't think enough to have to vote people because they said (he, she, they, we,) that is a ridiculous thing to say.

[AC] xx_Nemesis_xx;2588700 said:
Note: When referring to someone, I will say he. This is not because I know who they are, and please don't be offended if you are female, it's just easier than he/she/it/they/etc.

Read posts 13-21. It was just complete babbling. Non-game subjects are fine, but that was crap. And FYI, I was having a headache in real life.

Bingo

Wasn't rude. I just wanted it to stop.

See, the bolded part is not necessary. Some people are trying to say I AM SO-AND-SO (not just maelstrom) and that defeats the purpose of the game. We don't want to know who everyoen is. If we wanted to, it could have been a regular game.

That's a good point. But see here, now you're being kind of scummy trying to turn their reaction in to something scummy so yeah...

I don't really see anyone as very scummy so I vote to lynch [AC] Maelstrom for trying to make a reference to who they were, therefore defeating the purpose of the game, and therefore not being pro-town. I will most likely be back by nightfall.

okay nemisis i dont like this whole if you know who we are thing it defeats the whole purpose of the game. no it doesn't, not in the slightest. If you wish to remain in the shadows then by all means be my guest but voting someone because they hinted at their real identity is nonsense and anti-town. I don't really care to know who everyone is but i dont think it is scummy for people to know who you are. you dont even know if it was intentional he even apologized, for his supposed identity call. I think it is the opposite of scummy seeing as if we knew who each other were then there would be more things you can pin against them. for these reasons i vote to lynch Nemesis.
