Hes resting around a lot more, but hes not floating. Hes much preferring to sprawl out in the leaf litter making me question if hes alive half the time, or exploring from place to place. Rests often but thats understandable with his fins.
Likes to hunt the copepods too lol

Should be getting a few more plants, any day now in the mail lol

He seems less butt floaty again in these pics. Nothing wrong with hunting little copepods for food & fun. His tail top looks iffy but not like it did. Is that what you see too?

The "fuzzy" fin rot is disappearing thanks to the tannins, that's what I see.
There is still some damage happening to his fins, I dont see him biting them but im not always around so cant confirm he's not biting them. Hes got 2 holes (new) in his anal fin, and theyre sorta "melting" bigger.
However, he may not be floating, he still really badly struggles to swim. He rests way more than he swims, poor guy lol but he does seem to want to explore, just as much as he feels up to. He's not used to the space he has either, so needs time. The tank is very shallow, so he can reach the surface to breathe anytime he wants, and he has lots of rocks or leaves or sprite to rest on as well.

Its not happy news this update.

This whole week he has been going downhill. At first mostly just lazing around more, but then just not wanting to move, couldn't get food and we tried spot feeding him, which at first he took to, but as the week went on he became disinterested and had refused to eat. He has barely moved, lost a lot of the brightness to his eyes that he had when he saw us around. And last 2 days he began to pinecone.

So we made the decision today to let him go instead of letting him suffer. His food was soaked in epsom salts, but did nothing to prevent the start of dropsy and given his condition, he would not have been able to fight it off.

Of all the things we do in this hobby, this is the hardest of all with which to deal. I still have a very hard time when I have to put down any fish. I get a bad feeling in my stomach when I have to do this. I know I am doing the right thing by ending the suffering of the fish, but it does not matter. I do not like killing living things for the most part. Cockroaches or other invading insects in the house as well as mice I can handle, but that is about it.

You have my synpathies, Noodle. I know how badly doing this made you feel. Despite years in the hobby, this never gets any easier to do.
