Mishi - which convention center are you talking about? I know people have been bussed to the

The NO convention center which is not the same as the Super dome. It is very ugly there.

I heard today that Pres. Bush is going to New Oreans..yay. and that the government is trying to do everything that they can. It just takes time to go through the different levels of government. Besides..soldiers couldn't go to New Orleans very easliy. It is all flooded! If someone fell into the water they would either be drowned, elecricuted. I think that everyone is doing as much as they can at the moment. I hate seeing people on their rooftops too. I DO agree that people should be usuing helicopters to rescue the people but maybe they haven't thought of that yet:)

What the hell do you mean by ELECTROCUTED?.....THERE IS NO POWER DOWN THERE!!!

Well, I mean there were electronics and powerlines in the water! They could still have electricity in them. They also might not. It was just a thought.

Beautifulfish, that was a good thought, but it is only a concern if the city still has power. Electrocutions happen commonly after hurricanes because power might not be knocked out, and people may step into a puddle that is connected with a downed power-line. That might be an issue on the outskirts of the heavily affected areas. And they are using helicopters, it's just a slower process in reality than we wish.

ok..I probably haven't heard everything..I'm trying to as hard as I can but I don't have UD channels so it's kinda hard:)

I saw on CNN, the president talking to a woman and her family who is looking for other family members. She was in tears, he was holding another one... at first, I was touched and moved by this scene. I don't even like Bush, and yet I found myself admiring him.

... but then I hear the woman saying she can't find her brother or someone, and the President says "It'll be fine, we will find him and he'll be alright". That pissed me off, how dare he suggest a false sense of security/hope. I mean to comfort someone is one thing, but he's telling some poor sobbing woman that her blood related family will come out of this ok, that they will find her brother and bring him back to her?! I wanted to slap the guy right there. UGH.

Er, how exactly do you propose he comfort her? 'Yea, we might find him, maybe he will be alive'

Comforting someone, holding them, crying with them, etc etc. verses telling them bull crap is a totally different concept to most people... or to me, anyway. Heaven help them if they do find their loved ones dead.

As LongTime mentioned, it's the New Orleans Convention Centre. Thousands of people were directed to go there, and waded through polluted water on their way to it, and have since been waiting and waiting for help. Some people have died waiting. :( It's been a big topic on CNN...today, finally, the military has arrived with trucks of food and water to help.

How's about just listening, and giving her a shoulder to cry on.
