Wow, with each reply we find that there are more fish in the tank. Now there's a spotted raphael catfish and a rainbow shark, two more fish that get 6-8" each.
When I was new to the hobby, I used to take care of my tank just like you. Overstocked, with fish that I thought looked nice, using the horrible "one inch per gallon" calculation (and with current, not adult sizes), ignoring the nitrogen cycle and never testing parameters, and only doing water changes very seldom when the tank water actually "looked" dirty. Like you, I liked every single one of those fish. I eventually also killed every single one of them by not taking care of them properly. I still feel bad about it to this day.
We're not telling you that you're doing things wrong because we're picking on you. We're doing it because we've been there, or we've seen it happen, and we're trying to help you not to make the same mistakes, and let you know how to correct them if you already have. Look back through the posts in the newbie section. They're all full of the same information we're giving you. We're all fish lovers here, and all the advice we give is given with the best interest of your fish in mind.
Next time when someone gives advice, take a moment to think about the reason that they're giving it in the first place, before you attempt to come up with an excuse to dismiss/ignore it.
