My dad has a small problem with his tank.

I like my swordtails.. They add color to my tank so does my gourmai.. I'm not going to keep future fry, so I don't have to deal with the overstocking again.

Fish I might and will rehome:
common pleco
younger angelfish
spotted rapheal catfish
rainbow shark

Rehoming the pleco will make a huge difference. Removing the rest is a great idea and will also help the conditions in your tank immensely.

Wow, with each reply we find that there are more fish in the tank. Now there's a spotted raphael catfish and a rainbow shark, two more fish that get 6-8" each.

When I was new to the hobby, I used to take care of my tank just like you. Overstocked, with fish that I thought looked nice, using the horrible "one inch per gallon" calculation (and with current, not adult sizes), ignoring the nitrogen cycle and never testing parameters, and only doing water changes very seldom when the tank water actually "looked" dirty. Like you, I liked every single one of those fish. I eventually also killed every single one of them by not taking care of them properly. I still feel bad about it to this day.

We're not telling you that you're doing things wrong because we're picking on you. We're doing it because we've been there, or we've seen it happen, and we're trying to help you not to make the same mistakes, and let you know how to correct them if you already have. Look back through the posts in the newbie section. They're all full of the same information we're giving you. We're all fish lovers here, and all the advice we give is given with the best interest of your fish in mind.

Next time when someone gives advice, take a moment to think about the reason that they're giving it in the first place, before you attempt to come up with an excuse to dismiss/ignore it.

where is the emoticon for beating a dead horse TYVM?:argue::popcorn::hitting:

Some people are happier killing fish and complaining than actually taking care of a tank because it is easier and less work. You can't make someone care or take care of a tank or stop killing, stunting, etc, the livestock because it gets them the attention they seek. Too bad they do it at the expense of the livestock.

I just don't understand why those types of people make posts asking for advice.

And I like beating dead horses. Beating live ones would just be cruel!

rofl, like i said

It is a little sad though that type of thread can be up for two weeks and get twice the replies and 200 more views than my 6 month long thread that follows hours upon hours of careful work and planning

He's not doing this on purpose...he just doesn't properly understand that problems can be corrected. Gotta try and stay positive even if half of my posts are cocky and annoying, right?
