My first 29gal Fowlr

Another update, I've added some more life to the tank.

I've started adding my clean up crew which as of now consist of 15 blue legged hermit crabs and 8 astrea snails, please let me know if I'm headed in the right direction so far, and what else I should add if anything. The blue legged hermit crabs went to town on the diatoms in the substrate but the snails dont seem to be doing much at all if they're in the sand they dont move at all but if I put them on the glass they only move a few inches from where I put them.

I also added a small peice of live rock with 7 zoanthids on it, so far they are doing really well and stay open all day.

Excellent find on the zoas. I like the reddish ones.:D Tank looks good.

Thanks, I love the reddish orange ones.

Today I leanred how fast these guys (green zoas) reproduce, the picture with the actinics on was taken last night between 7:45pm and 8:30pm, today I come home to find two more. The one large one split and then I had a tiny one in the front that also split.

I ended up taking all the rock out today and giving the tank tank a good cleaning due to algae starting to take over, and in the process I rescaped a little. There was green algae basically covering the whole rear glass of the tank and hair algea starting to grow all over the substrate I scrubbed all the rocks down with toothbrush in a bucket of tank water and tried to pull/vacuum all the algae off the substrate. Anyhow heres the outcome, it's not a huge difference but a little better.

Found another hitchhiker. I'm not too sure about what it is though, it kinda looks like a tiny seastar what do you guys think? It's the two tentacles sticking out, they're white with black stripes.

Nice lights, your parents hooked you up. The parameters look good, keep up the good work. Your tank is just starting out, so I would'nt worry to much about the algae, we all go through that stage. I would recommend a turbo snail, they are absolute work horses on the rocks and glass. Also, consider taking your light period down to 8 or 10 hours. I could never get my sand clean until I cut back mine, and thats with 0 readable nitrates and phosphates. I will help I assure you. And I would agree with your ID on the hitchhiker, looks like a star to me too. I have dozens, they are a good thing.

Thanks for the reassurance, I cut back the light period a last week to the actinics coming on at 10am the 10k coming on at 10:30am then 10k turn off at 8pm and actinics off at 9pm.
