My First SW Tank!

Ya, you can't go FW to SW.. suuuuuure. Same tank in both pictures. Also, can't have an anemone is a 30G? Look at the second pic. Anemone and maroon clown have been living happily for over 5 years in that tank. I also have a total of 13 fish in my tank.. and been that way for a loooong time.

its not that you can not

its that those who are uber knowlagable, professional, and crediable, STRONGLY SUGGEST that you do not.

based on my own personal research, i wouldnt.

i also dont think that you should suggest its okay for others to do so.

the point of this forum is to get good information to as many people as possible. therefore, id think it your personal responsibility to not post your personal opinion like its fact, diluting and confusing individuals looking for FACTS to better their knowledge, and strengthen the hobby

keeping a nem in a 30gal is not considered proper husbandry.

and id challenge you to provide me with 1 credible source that says otherwise.

I feel I am credible having a anemone living for close to 6 years now in the same 29G tank. But I guess you wouldn't.

I went from FW to Brackish to SW all in the same tank. Now when I went reef I tore it completely down and redid it all from scratch.

6 years for a 30-40 year lifespan doesnt mean much at all.

like i said, show me 1 credible source, not opinion

LOL.. 6 years in a small tank IS a lifetime compared to most people that buy anemones (joking, I hear what your saying about 40yr lifespan). Question is, is my anemone healthy and feeds daily.. yes... does it walk around and seem unrestful, no. To me, that seems like a happy anemone.

doode, im not saying YOUR nem isnt happy.

im just not condoning you saying that nems are fine in 30gals or less.

your nem looks fine im not questioning that. im just pointing out that when you say something like that, your very liable to inspire some one to go out and buy one for their lil tank.

ok, I agree with you on that. I simply wanted to show what everyone else usually thinks about when first thinking of a reef. Clownfish/Anemone. That was what I did first, and both the clown and anemone have survived this long. I made A LOT of mistakes along the way as well.. so that to me shows how hardy both can be as long as the mistakes are not too severe.

Also, did I not mention I am taking the anemone and clown back in the near future as it has gotten to big and I want to move more to SPS corals. I don't think they are ideal in a small tank, and I wouldn't suggest one in anything smaller than a 29G.. but in a 29G if you just want an anemone/clowns and some mushrooms/zoas I don't really see a problem.

I'm not sure you're talking about the same thing. No one has suggested the tank can't be used for FW and then for SW. But the bacteria are indeed different and many feel that although some fish can survive at different SGs that they can't thrive that way.

I hear ya.. My FW-SW took about a year to accomplish.. went FW.. then fell in love with figure8 puffers.. so went brackish slowly.. then eventually FOWLR all without changing all the water out.. but again, this was over the span of a year. Not a quick process.

Actually, I read a lot of places that people say you can't use a FW tank for SW if you used copper medicine in the past as it seeps into the silicone and back into the sw tank.
