My goldfish is pooping A LOT. No, like, really, A LOT.

And what kind of peas should I use? My fish are only about 2, maybe 3 inches, not including their tails....should I cut them in half or something?

K, we'll try that! Thanks!

What is happening is the mucus from the intestinal tract is acting as a buffer and keeping it all together. This can be a sign of intestinal parasites or just low amounts of fiber in the diet. Feeding them an antiparisite medicated food with new goldfish is generally a good idea.

The peas will help to break it up and will be a treat for them. Just cut them in half and drop them in the tank. You'll need to do a water change the next day and clean out any uneaten food. I used to take some frozen peas once a week and just drop them in the tank.... still frozen.

I started growing some duckweed for them in a 15 gallon. Goldfish consider duckweed to be candy and can devour large quantities in very little time. It makes them very happy and keeps the unsightly poop strings from forming.

I've been feeding them 2 small meals of Tetra goldfish flakes daily, with Hikari daphnia once or twice a week as a treat. Is there a particular food you would recommend that has more fiber? That would make sense as to why my moor is having more issues than my comet though....he outcompetes her for food. I make sure she gets enough, and separate the two when he's being especially greedy, but he still tends to eat more than her. Is the extra food giving him extra fiber? So should I just be feeding them more or switching food entirely? I'll have to look up duckweed. We aren't doing a planted tank....do you do it in the tank with them, or grow some separately and give them pieces now and then?

Try api flakes and feed once a day. They won't starve over feeding isn't good either.

I heard that the sinking pellets retain more nutrients than flakes...should I try those?

You can try. But still feed once a day. Goldfish are gluttons and will keep eating which isn't good for them either. Right now I would just do the medicated food then skip feeding for a day or two then start with new flakes or pellets which ever you pick. He could be eating too much. Thus why his body can't get rid of it faster than he's eating.

I'm thinking you might be right on the eating too much....the moor (who's having the worst time with this of the 2) will NOT stop scavenging in the sand. I'm going to try not feeding them for 3 days, and then do peas...I'm going to switch them to API pellets...after looking at the ingredients and analysis of the tetrafin closer I was not impressed, and the API has a higher fiber content. Hopefully all this will help with my little water piglets' bowel movements.
