My new clown loaches

Clown loaches do not grow very fast.

while on this subject, can anyone tell me if clown loaches alwayshave there Bifurcated suboccular spines or if the develope them later in life? If later, dose anyone know about when? Would they be likley to injure my pleco with them if they keep loach pileing him?

They were born with the spines. Your pleco should have a pretty tough armor/skin so it shouldn't have a problem with the loaches.

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of trying to get a decent picture of them. The only pic i've gotten so far has the loaches all the way to the back of the tank and a serpa tetra right up front so it looks like either the loaches are tiny or the serpa is huge. I'm hopeing to get a picture of them doing there "Loach dance" in the bubble stream. It's so cool to watch.

I havent seen any agression between the plecos and the loaches. Looks more like the loaches wanna snuggle and after a few minutes the pleco just kinda shakes em off.

I wish my loaches were a little more active during the day, but i'm gonna get some LED lunar lights so i can see them better at night.

I know a 125 gallon is a little small to keep them once full grown, but i'm building a rec room in the basement that, when finished, will have a much larger built in tank.

get some pictures!

i have an empty 125g tank and was gonna get 5-7 loaches...but everyone says my tank is too small. can someone clear this up once and for all? some people say id need a larger tank, others say go for it....

thanks. and remember...i wanna see some pictures ;)
I would say that a group of 5-7 would be OK in 125 gallons for about 3-5 years. At a certain point, like say when they reach 8 inches, they will need a much larger aquarium.

then i think im just going with corys and kuhlis. thanks guys.

Another thing. I've been eyeing up this 2 gallon glass jar thinking it might be a good place to raise some "feeder snails" for my loaches. Is this worth it? are snails good for loaches or would they be better off eating other things.

Currently mine get a mix of blood worms, brine shrimp, sinking shrimp pellets and flake food.

You will need a larger tank later, when they get larger. 6" or so. But it takes them a long time to get that big. The loaches will be fine in a 125 for a while. just make sure they have lots of hiding places where they can all pile in. And good current.

Loaches LOVE snails. I say go for it. :) I feed mine snails all the time.

yes, go for it!
once they figure out what it is, don't ever expect a snail to hit the bottom of the tank.

Cool, thanks guys. Now i just need to come up with some starter snails to get a colonie going. I cant help but find it a little ironic how just a few years ago i worked very hard to erradicate snails from my 55 gallon. Now of course, the LFS in my area only carry plants that they claim are "Guaranteed snail free". Go figure.
