I would say that a group of 5-7 would be OK in 125 gallons for about 3-5 years. At a certain point, like say when they reach 8 inches, they will need a much larger aquarium.Brian Anderson said:get some pictures!
i have an empty 125g tank and was gonna get 5-7 loaches...but everyone says my tank is too small. can someone clear this up once and for all? some people say id need a larger tank, others say go for it....
thanks. and remember...i wanna see some pictures![]()
You will need a larger tank later, when they get larger. 6" or so. But it takes them a long time to get that big. The loaches will be fine in a 125 for a while. just make sure they have lots of hiding places where they can all pile in. And good current.Brian Anderson said:get some pictures!

Loaches LOVE snails. I say go for it.GuZZiZZiT said:Another thing. I've been eyeing up this 2 gallon glass jar thinking it might be a good place to raise some "feeder snails" for my loaches. Is this worth it? are snails good for loaches or would they be better off eating other things.
Currently mine get a mix of blood worms, brine shrimp, sinking shrimp pellets and flake food.
