My Nothobranchius killifish Journal

Not much to report this afternoon

Caught 2 more N. patrizii fry and 1 Foerschi fry

I well dry the peat in the morning and try again in 1-2 weeks

Here are a few pics to look at

The middle 2 are the Rochovii fry @ 1 day old , I didn't bother to take pics of the other fry at this point they look the same

First and last pics is a Foerschi fry that just hatched

All pic are taken with my phone so quality not the best

As far as growth rates these types of fish are by far the fastest ime. Stands to reason when in their natural environment the odds of them seeing their first birthday are slim at best. Properly fed and cleaned they should be practically full grown and breeding by Halloween.

that is super cool

that makes them the fastest growing fish i have ever seen:)

Day 4

I think the last of my fry has hatched, no new fry today so Total count is 78 fry

I don't think the fry are eating the BBS maybe they are to small yet , So i ground up some flake food and feed them never seen them eat it but they came around the food so who knows

I dried the peat moss and eggs today hope in 1-2 weeks i well try and hatch some more

I use a BBS net to strain the peat/eggs and placed it on news paper to dry, The eggs are so small you need to have a good look to make sure you never missed any ( wife rechecked all my work )

When the peat/eggs are damp i well put it back in there storage containers ,

Here are the pics , they are mixed up i haven't figured out how to rearrange them yet

Try microworms, if you can, for a few days. I fed mine microworms for a week then started on BBS because they were not eating the BBS when they first hatched and I think it was because their mouths were not big enough for the BBS.

I thought i had microworms last week , a fellow hobbyist said he had some and i could get a culture but it fell through and you cant get that kind of stuff around here everything has to be ordered in.

Day 5

It looks like all the fry are still alive but its hard to say i have hornworth in there trays and cant see them all , but i never found any dead

The fry are eating BBS now i dropped in some and they were pretty active around it

I also transfered over 20 Rachovii Berira 98 fry to a new container

No pics yet i might get a few tonight

Day 6

All my fry are doing good and growing

I know now they are eating BBS and i got the pics to prove it , just look at there fat pink belly's:woot:

The fry in the pics are the N. Eggersi Red

They should get to be around 2'' in length and if conditions are right they well have a life span of 2 years, They are annual fish and in the wild they live for a year.

My goal now is to raise them and try and get a few good breeding pairs and the culls well go to my local LFS
