My tanks

Have we seen that 20 yet? I don’t remember it!! Love it though :)
It was previously a baby fish tote before we moved tanks around, we were given back our 20 tall we gave our upstairs neighbor. Housed some babies in it for a little bit, but have it setup for the loaches and DG now since moving the fish from the 46 to the 55

You could try anarchis (it grows so fast the goldfish won’t eat it) or using clay pots, where goldfish live there isn’t many plants and for livebearers they can hide in the pots Imo, my 10 has no plants cause I’m using the 40 to farm them and my betta and corydoryas are fine rn I’m moving the cories out soon most People I know with goldfish don’t keep plants.

The snails eat the anacharis. Ive tried hornwort too. Ive tried anubias. Ive tried crypts. Ive tried swords. I've tried wisteria. Ive tried bladderwort even. Ive tried moss. Java ferns. Hygro. Salvinia. Duckweed. Frogbit. Water sprite. You name it, they eat it.
I keep a bunch of hornwort and duckweed in the breeder net box to provide nitrate control, but keep the snails out. I keep the fake plants to create vertical sight breakers as the fish did not like having just cave type things to hide in. Ive done clay pots the livebearers didn't like them.

What snails are they? They shouldn’t eat plants imo if your son likes them a lot you could put them in like a little 5 gallon tank for him to watch them

Mystery snails and apple snails. Get too large for a 5g and too much bioload for a 5g.

Honestly I don't mind 100% as the fish aren't bothered by the fake plants. Also no longfinned fish in this tank either.

As for bamboo, tried that too! Snails ate the roots off it and killed it.

Pothos is toxic to cats, harder to hide from the cats than lucky bamboo.

Explain to your son that they are hurting the aquarium and need to be removed but they will go to a good home, you could possibly put them in a plastic tub with cream wrap?
