My tanks

He was bought as a DG from petsmart lol not labeled or bought as wild. But other forums have said wild.
But, if he is indeed a hybrid, it wouldn't be so great to further pursue breeding them. But at least hoping they get along better at the very least.

That pretty much settles it.... it's not wild caught. Chain stores like Petsmart only buy large quantities from the big fish farms. They are not going to bother with expensive speciality fish like wild caught dwarf gourami's or guppies or anything they can get for a much lower price in much larger quantities. For something their customers wouldn't even notice the difference or care about anyway. They are not even going to buy from small farms which can't supply enough farmed fish, that would require them order from several farms to get enough of the same fish species. Chain stores don't like that at all.

If you bought it in a speciality store or something like Predatory Fins who picks and imports their own fish, it could be wild caught. (and it would show in the price as well). I'm not saying it's impossible there is a local 'long bodied' strain somewhere, but as you can see all the wild caught specimens on Fishbase have the usual body shape. Saying that it is wild cause it has a long body is just not true.

Other possible explanations; it has a deformed body or it's a farmed 'long bodied' variety.

Well... i know my petsmart deals with some wild caught fish. Ive gotten mix ups of by catch fish that arent bred or farmed in captivity.

Point and case is my corydoras ambiacus and my pangio doriae. Its not that far off that a wild DG got caught as a by-catch with other asian wild caughts and got shipped in as well.

Ive encountered other DG like my Red at other stores too. Theyre few and far between, but ive seen them.

But i never claimed wild "caught". Just variant, referring to colouration and type. Just as there are "wild guppy" colourations and "wild betta splendens" colourations. Just means they dont have the fancy domestic bred colourations and instead resemble the original colouration of the species.

But also, not disagreeing he couldnt be a hybrid either. I know they hybridize chuna with labiosa and label them "sunset honeys". So its very plausible too.

I just dont know what to think anymore because ive had people insist hes NOT a hybrid when i asked. Ive had people insist he is. Ive had many different answers given to me.

Petsmart orders from wholesalers, those have wild caught fish. But they don't carry wild caught dwarf gourami's. Ambiacus is carried by some of the biggest wholesalers, it might be a mix up but it's not rare. I can't say for sure it's a hybrid, but the logic of the other forum doesn't hold up.

I like the 'organized jungle' look the best personally.
I like what you have on the right with the wood, rocks and sword. I feel like you should move all the stem plants on the left to the back and get some put some shorter plants in the front (ie. crypts) a carpet might even look good there. Then I'd add some wood to the left. Just an idea

Funny thing, there are crypts in there. Theres one smack in the middle of the tank between the sword and the stem plants. I have another sproutlet of a crypt in front of the sword too.
Cant do a carpet--no CO2.
Behind the stem plants i actually have more swords. Plantlets growing. Ill probably be selling one sword as it grows as i dont think i can fit more in it lol the one sword is a monster as it is

This is currently how it is. The wisteria and ludwigia will grow to the height of the tank.

I'll have to look into it, I was recommended it in another board a long time ago.

Edit- Medium-high light, optional co2, I think it may need ferts.
