The tank looks dark because I didn't use any flash lol.
A good strategy to darken the back of the tank is to move the light all the way up front and hook it onto the lid's handle and have a dark background. It works great at work. I actually have a 17 watt bulb, and a 20 watt bulb on this tank so the plants hopefully don't die.
If you have a breeder style tank you can do the normal light in the front and a small 18" bulb in the back as well so the fish don't hide in the back all day. I was using only actinic on the old tank which gave it sort of a moonlight effect, but I wanted a more natural effect on this tank.
