need car advice.

Mazda's are not a good investment, hard ride, oil leaks. If you are going to try to find a car that is good on gas and will not dig deep in your pocket, try to find a chevy impala, from a rental company, like enterprise.I have a good friend that bought one 3 years ago,and you can not tear her away from it.She's used the car for maybe 10 trips back and forth from Dallas to New Orleans, good gas mileage and comfortable.

take it to an car fixer-uper place.

That's a Smart. http://www.smartusa.com/

Amazingly enough they are OK as far as safety ratings go.

Actually this is NOT a smart car...

It is an imported vehicle with a 250 cc motorcycle engine that claims 60 mpg.
I am in the process of becoming a distributor of these in the chicago area...

the jeep has a 650 cc engine, sells for about 13,000 Also claims approx 60 MPG

This is a smartcar

so yesterday I went to this place that sells 2-3 year old cars. They buy a lot of cars and sell them at a marginal profit. (I think they make like 250-300$ profit per car) but they sel lots of cars daily. I spoke to the guy, told him what my needs were and what my budget was, and he strongly suggested the yaris.

I took a look at the sedan and it actually isn't as tiny as I thought (on the inside)... Considering the price, and the gas mileage, I think I might pick it up...

It'll definately be a change (I've always been used to driving bigger cars/SUVs) but I think it'll be nice not having to put gas every second day!!!

he's recieving some of them tomorrow.. I'll let you know how it turns out.

thanks for all your advice..

The Yaris is a good choice! I was looking at one, the only thing I didn't like about it, the speedometer and all the other stuff sits in the middle of the dashboard. But I think that would be a good choice! Congrats:D

My sister has a Yaris hatch, and she really likes it. Once you get past the geeky look, it seems like a pretty solid car. I've driven it a few times, it handles decent, no problem on the highway, and Toyota has a pretty great reputation for quality. I'm not sure what kind of mileage she gets but its pretty decent.

I'll also go along with Jon with the VW TDI, if you can afford it. They are hard to find used, since people tend to hang onto them. My Jetta has 155k on it and its still going strong.

A buddy of mine is moving across the country and is selling his wife's Kia Spectra, I believe its an '08 with about 2k miles on it...it was used as her winter car so she could park her benz, so its basically brand new, and he's looking to unload it for bluebook, basically. If you feel like taking a road trip to CT, I'll even put you up for a night or two :D. Seriously though, if you want I'll give you his email so yo ucan drop him a line.

Its usually only the rotary engine that has oil problems, most other Mazda's will be fine. I don't know that I would recommend anyone buy an ex rental car, have you ever known anyone drive a rental car with care?

I would take a look at a Mazda 3, or a Nissan Maxima/Altima, it really depends what type of car and budget the OP has, there are way too many choices otherwise.

drop a match in the gas tank, that should do the trick!
