New 30gal setup

Thanks CL. There was a lot of very helpful information in that link and in another link contained in the one you gave me.

I have never been able to get my nitrates down to below 20 and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm getting phosphates from somewhere. The water I use is RO water from a lfs. Is it possible phosphates and nitrates could be coming from the salt they use? They use Instant Ocean.

Ooja, I don't have a filter of anykind. I strictly have live rock and 3 powerheads in the tank currently. I'm wanting to switch the smaller powerhead (zoomed aquasweep) to a larger device, preferrably a Koralia when I can get one. The zoomed would be used for mixing my salt which I have decided to start doing on my own.

I took some tank pics this afternoon of the different algae/bacteria I have growing in my tank so maybe they can be positively identified and help others.

The first two pics are of the latest growth that I think is Cyano. I don't have a lot of it in the tank (thankfully).

I believe this is Cheato and is beneficial.

Here is another bit of Macro algae I believe, but I have no idea what kind. I have this stuff growing a numerous places on that one rock, and I have found a few small sprouts in a couple other areas of the tank.

I'm not sure what kind of algae this is. Fairly hard to see in the picture. It is pretty stiff like grass and resembles Cheato, but isn't branching like the Cheato.

Finally, the algae that is determined to take over the tank. I continue to weed it out in bits and pieces, but this stuff grows like a weed. You can see it looks a lot like feathers. The first pic is from the front of the tank and the second pic is from the side. You can see it is attacking the back glass. It isn't growing on any of the rocks, but is definately fond of the powerheads, heater and thermometer.

I think I have a problem with circulation in the back of the tank. THe sand back there remains dusty and dirty looking while the sand in the front and sides looks great.

Don't be jealous Grins. If you want I'll bring you some algae of your very own.

Sorry no new full tank shots. It really hasn't changed much. I tried to get better circulation and now I'm getting more sand shifting in the front. I jsut can't seem to get the powerheads to do what I want and I'm sure it is because of the way they expel water. I'm gonna have to get me at least one Koralia.

Jack from RASOC is only going to sell one of his #3s by the way. I was thinking of getting his 2 #3s but since he is only selling the one I may just wait to get the 2 #4s online. If you really want the #3 you might jump on his. I told him I was going to think it over for a few days but not to pass by another offer if he gets one.
