New 72 gallon bowfront,FOWLR.

Oops, sorry about that, should have reserached a bit more. That sure looks like him/her. Like you said, great fish either way! Also interesting that your occelaris (orange and white) and the saddle are getting along. Thanks.

the occelaris is a wimp. the only time the saddleback leaves his bubble coral is when the occelaris is around (usually he hides by the hang on filter unless its feeding time) and the saddle tries to get his attention but he wants nothing to do with him.

the only problem fish in the tank is the bicolor pseudochromis who tries to start something with any fish that goes near his rock work. (VERY territorial) he's actually calmed down a lot since i've got the tang since the tang's put him in his place a couple times.

i've actually added 3 chromis to the mix a couple days ago. so all the fish are pretty passive (even the tang atleast for now)

lol

I think i have a problem/addiction with this tank guys.
Over the weekend found a good deal on craigslist of some guy breaking down his tank and selling off everything in it. Got a bunch of a pulsating xenia( about 6 heads), a yellow fiji leather, a crocea clam, a rock with about 5 heads of bright orange ricordia, and a nice big orange sun coral with about 20 heads. and he threw in a peppermint shrimp too. ( for $200, what a steal.) will post some more pics later on tonight.

anyway i've been searching around craigslist and the marketplace on here and have come to the conclusion that i'm going to have to buy a new skimmer if i want a decent one. nothing but coralife and prizms have been advertised.

Anyway i've been looking up a bunch of skimmer and it seems my 72 gallon tank is on the border of the up to 75 gallons and 75-150 and so on. i know should probably get the larger model.

I've been looking in to the aquac remoras but have heard they can be a little noisy. Can anyone recommend a quiet skimmer for my tank size? Willing to spend some money on it but not looking to spend over $300.

Also, has anyone heard good/bad things about aqua medic skimmers?

Thanks guys.

I am guessing you need a HOB skimmer? If so, there are really only 3 out now that I would recommend. Not in any particular order. Most companies overstate their skimmers true capacity, so getting one that says it is rated "up to 75G", for most of them I would say that really means "up to 50G tops". Warner Marine is one of the few companies I feel do not overstate their skimmers capacity but they are very pricey skimmers. The AquaC Remora I feel is good up to 40G and the Pro up to 50G regardless of what the PR on them states.

Reef Octopus BH-2000
Warner Marine H2
Deltec MCE-300

thanks ace. you're right i'm looking for a hob.

i was checking out the reef octopus but the price made me think it was too cheap. can anyone comment on the noise?

I can't speak for them personaly since I don't have a skimmer at all but from the reserach I have done while considering a HOB, the Reef Octos and Warner Marine always seem to get high marks for performance. Quiet is important to me too as my tank is dead silent the way it is and want to keep it that way. Unforunately I have yet to consistently read about any skimmer that is quiet. People have different tolerences for noise though so you never know.

thanks greech, you're always quick to respond.

i think i'll order the reed octopus tonight. worse comes to worse i could put it on a timer and have it go off for a couple hours when i normally go to sleep. hoep fully that would still be beneficial.

I have the In sump Reef octopus ....Love it... Reef Octo is a very well made good priced brand.

HOB I have seen on LFS here...I hear no noise from the older models they use. My In sump version ....zero noise due to a baffle on the air intake hose.

I never turn my skimmer off....my next tank I am going to buy that brand again.
