new here

my blue platy looks like she's developing a gravid spot and she is acting a little off today. I'm no expert so I'm just guessing that she is pregnant and because she looks a little too thin to be pregnant. Should I set up my small 1.5 gal hex tank with a bare bottom just in case? Pics to come.

That is a sick fish I'm afraid. Can you give us some data, such as test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH? Temperature? How long have you had this fish? Any other fish with similar symptoms (which are clamped fins, and I would expect lethargy)?

It might also be advisable to post these photos and info in the disease section where more may see it as a new thread. This thread is getting long and some people may ignore long-standing threads assuming it is still the original issue.

Byron.

it's a blue platy and when I got her all of the other platys looked the same and she has been swimming fine. No clamped fins, eyes clear, eating fine. I did move her to the 12 gal tank because she started going toward the bottom of the tank next to a rock and looked like she was doing that birth trance, she did have a white glob of something coming out of her butt area. This did come on only today and I could have missed that anal mark.
I'll post in that other thread though to make sure.

This is sounding like perhaps constipation, or something internal like intestinal worms/bacteria. Others will know more and better than me, and I'm sure post in the disease thread.

help! I got some API test strips from petco and need some ideas about what to do. My GH is 120, KH is 180 and my pH is 7.0 and I think that those are okay but my NO2 is a solid 10 and the NO3 is about 160. I did a 20% water change friday so I'll do another. What can be causing this, could the aquarium salt for the ich have killed off microbes?

This likely explains the fish death. Was this tank cycled...I checked back a bit and it seems mid-April was the start? And have you tested the tap water on its own for both nitrite and nitrate (and ammonia while you're at it)?

after a 45% water change
GH 120
KH 180
pH 7.5
NO2 10
NO3 80

conclusion, my city's water sucks and I will tell them. I should start using the RO water. :irked:
