New Nano Reef Diary, the sequel

I think your yellow goby is the problem. I was told they can nip corals as well as bug them by sitting on them. Cute fish tho.
I'm looking for more color now as well. My acropora experiment is working nicely and putting out new polyps. I had my doubts about that.
I found a polyp on my rock that isn't much to write home about, kind of dull purple during the day,but under the moonlights it has an electric green shine to it that is really neat so I'm hoping it produces a colony.
I'm looking for a yellow or red gorgonian. I have a frilly 'purple candle' frag that is doing ok, but only a couple inches long, so that will take months before its aything to look at. Patience patience patience...

How is your tulip anemone? I saw them at my lfs and am thinking of getting one. :)

LOL SF a while ago the tulip divided, then the little buggers went wandering, stung some Xenia and were summarily banished to the 5.5g. They're cute, but you have to keep your eye on them. PM me with your addy and I'll send you one of my two if you like. Mine initially wandered until it found a hole to plant its foot in, so if you'd like one keep that in mind when you position it. :)

I'm going to give the ycg a little time yet; I did a 5g water change and added a few little strings of chaeto (sweetalked a LFS employee into giving me a little piece) to the fuge, and things are improving. The goby is spending a lot of time on the fox coral, leaving the candycane alone, and the fox seems to completely ignore him (apparantly it's a coral that doesn't bother other corals, and doesn't seem to get stung either, maybe this applies to gobies too!) Today the candycane puffed up nicely, so it's either happy about the water quality or just pleased that the little turkey is leaving it alone for once :)

I'm setting a terrarium up in the old 14g, and want to use the 80W fixture that's on the 30g ATM. We bought a 24" 130W fixture on eBay tonight which will not only allow me to light up the terrarium in style, but also fit the 30g properly and give the corals more light :D

Swimfans I've got that same purple thing growing on my live rock. Any clue as to what it is? They spread a lot too, it started as a single group and now five or six more have popped up all over the tank. Blinky tank looks great! Only hope my looks that good someday.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it :D
If you want an ID on the hitchhiker, I'd post in the General Marine section with a picture.

EDIT --> I guess I should add the most up to date picture of the tank! I posted a group of pics in the General section a few days ago, but forgot to update here.

Tank look good Blinky. I am slowly getting everything that I will need for my 40g breeder. Found some good deals at reef central. I already have 192 watts of light (coralife), sand, power heads are on the way. Will order coralife super skimmer, 45 lbs of fiji live rock, 30 lbs of base rock, and portable refractometer, hubby is getting the tank.

Hope my tank will look half as good as yours.

I think my purple polyp is called an electric pink zoanthid. It looks kind of purpley under the daylight and flourescent green under actinic. Its in an odd place so I can't really take a picture of it.
Blinky, I've ben looking for info on tulip anemone and can't find much only contradictory info. Some sites say its very aggressive and an other site says they are often maligned and the only real problem is their tendancy to wander. I read that if you drill a hole in a piece of pvc and fill it with sand and stick the anemone in the hole and bury the whole thing, it will stay put and you can place them where you like. They like they're feet anchored in sand. Sooooooooooooo, I'll fink about it :)
Very cute tank you've got there. Mine is in a phosphate trouble right now so on payday its out for phosban...or sumpin such. :(

Freddy, thanks *blush*
mrsdorothy, can't wait to see it :)
SF, mine stayed happily put with its foot in a deep hole... until... it divided. Then all bets were off, it went for a wander in several directions at once, played in the Xenia (which recovered, but was NOT happy about the meeting) and I kicked it's butt, pried it unceremoniously off the rock and threw it in the 5.5g. It's happy in there with the shrooms and its little clone, no wandering so far.

UPDATE...
Still kicking, and now inflating and eating like a champ: it's a bird, it's a plane, it's super little LPS!! Still looks like nothing on earth, but I think it's going to make it :)

And just for good measure (everyone loves a picture!) I finally got a half decent shot of the maroon clownfish - meet the new guy! :D

The fish have all been re-establishing their pecking order, and the poor clown is clearly the dumb one of the bunch and lowest on the food chain. He looks like he wants to host the fox coral, sneaks up behind the ycg every chance he gets and snuggles in it, but the goby's having none of it. It's his coral, and pint-sized as he is, he's managed to keep the maroon away (and thoroughly frustrated from the looks of it) by rubbing up against him. I read that they've got a skin secretion that tastes bad, so I'm assuming he's saying 'here, have some of this!'
The clown was pouting about losing his coral yet again this afternoon and decided to head down to the substrate... where he was chased away by a VERY angry shrimp goby! He tried to retreat into the rocks, where the wrasse gave him a good, sound talking to, and ended up looking totally fed up and hanging out in the corner by himself. Everyone's friendly enough this evening, looks like they've decided who owns what and they're all getting along. As long as no one gets hurt, I don't mind a little posturing, but they did have me worried for a while.

That's kind of funny, because maroon clowns, with their red eyes and all, look like the mean (almost demonic) fish while the gobies seem almost awkward, you'd think that the gobie would be picked on. :D

All in good time, I'm sure. Maroons didn't get their reputation as jerks sitting around doing nothing - this guy is just a baby, I dread the day he grows up, becomes a she, and turns evil
