David, haven't discussed the 3D background actually. It is a commercial product that I cut to fit to the tank dimension. Here's the link to the manufacturer. Their product offerings have changed since I ordered, but I've been very happy with the product's look, ease of install, and durability:
An added bonus to the background is that it provides additional surface area for nitrosamonas colonization (besides looking great). It's not cheap so a DIY might be an interesting option the next time around.
Yeah, I'd like to oblige Unfortunately, my camera is first generation digital (a.k.a. "hot garbage"). I have a very long shutter speed and the focus is lousy.... result = close ups that lack detail and that are always blurry unless the fish is absolutely still. Santa might need to deliver a better camera.
Santa also needs to deliver a vacation..... crazy busy the last few weeks and I've actually scaled back to once weekly water changes of necessity. I'm not noticeing any untoward effects thus far, but the weekend water changes for all 200+ gallons now takes a good 3-4 hours (vegetation cut, glass clean, substrate vac, etc.) Hopefully, updated photos coming after the Saturday marathon.
Far too long since I posted any tank photos (in need of a vacation badly):
Lake Tanganyika still hasn't been fully stocked (schooling cyps) but I did move the anubias up to the driftwood in the interim.
Lots of new growth on the anubias.
Business as usual in SE Asia. The manzanita has started to settle into the landscape a bit more and has a field of growing grass beneath it. I recently added a new bag of substrate to raise some of the low-lying areas on tank right.
The hairgrass is going to overtake the entire tank but the effect should be very nice. I want to add blyxa j. to the tank but need to manufacture time in my schedule to order and install (ugh).
Thanks Top. I'm lacking a sexy update until the new stocking for Africa nd the blyxa get added, but its still interesting to see a photo log of the grass' growth every month: First photo November 10, second from yesterday, December 15
