New tank

PVC does not affect water chemistry.

What kind of glue did you use on the fern? Here in the US we use Super Glue Gel.

I had 1 tank "melt down" last year & most of my plants, including most java fern & some anubias leaves died. I was shocked! I don't know what happened but all the plants are slowly recovering. It may have been a tap water problem or ??? I've never had java ferns or most anubias do that & I've kept them for 40 years.

My ferns & anubias were just wedged in between rocks not glued or tied with thread...

I used this:

it says Ethyl 2 cyanoacrylate.

That looks like the right glue form, the brand is not important.

Do you have "city" water supply or from a private well? I don't know what to ask or to tell you besides I'm sorry that happened.

What is the best way to lower pH? today I found out that it is my substrate that is alkaline. I used the "acid test" method to determine what was causing my high pH P_20230624_220659.jpg

I was thinking maybe get one of those API ph down but I'm not sure how would my substrate react to that. Guess I will have to do daily water changes to keep ph down until I can change substrate.

I tried uploading a video directly but it did not happen.
Check this video where I did acid test.

trying to reduce my tank's pH I decided to remove a little of the substrate hoping it would do something.
after water change, from left to right: ammonia, pH, high pH

I'd say replace the pH increasing substrate very soon. Trying to "fix" pH with chemicals will only lead to a yoyo up & down effect that is most likely worse than just waiting. That is very stressful to your fish. Little changes are safest.

i got some new plants but they have a foul smell, other than that they seem normal. already bleach dip them but the smell still lingers. is it safe to put it in the tank?
