Been online for quite a few years now, only met 2 people so far, granted I want to meet more but the time will come I suppose if its going to happen. One was a guy who I met in a paintball chat room and he came down and bought some stuff from our (familys) paintball store, and the other I met her online and we met went on a couple dates, and let me tell you the whole thing about women being afraid of men they meet online, well it applies to women too.
fish conventions
I've met quite a lot of people from online when I've gone to fish conventions. I went to FOTAS (Federation of Tx Aquatic Societies) this past weekend, last fall I went to AGA (Aquatic Gardeners Assn) and attended a weekend of plant stuff here in town with both online and local fish people.
Sometimes I add my screen name to my convention name tag, beneath my real name, sometimes I don't, so I may not know if I am talking to a person who knows me from online.
The fish people I know from the local fish club tend to not get online, as far as I know. Those meetings are very far a way so I don't get to them too often.

I haven't been online too long... I just recently joined this board. I used to use instant messangers, but don't use them anymore.
But, recently i met a member of AC to give a fish. I was sorta reluctant (because of all the freakshows), but we met at a safe location (big als) and she (who wasn't really a he pretending to be a she) seemed alright.
Personally though, i don't try too hard to get to know online people.

trust corax to put it in perspective.
at least 10 years and only a couple. one guy is really great and we occasionally talk on the phone. another guy lives kind of local and sort of faded away even tho we had some really great talks at the coffee shop a few nights and swapped some stuff. the girl....... well we don't want to go there, it was far less than perfect.
there's still some others that i talk to regularly or occasionally i'd like to meet sometime. but i am a bit more cautious overall.......
