Opinions please

what's your kh?
what's your ph from the tap after sitting out overnight?
what's you ph from the tank after sitting out overnight?
do you have a drop checker?
are you actually running co2?
are you dosing any ferts/root tabs?

looks like a good start.

:iagree:

I see talk about off gasing co2. but I don't see any mention of having co2 to begin with. the air stone will help provide surface agitation which will promote gas exchange at the surface. The bubbles floating through the water doesn't really add oxygen to the tank. Air stone or not your tank is going to settle with about 2-3PPM of co2.

Your tank looks great.

I would separate the vals a bit and they will grow in densely over time.

My main suggestion for right now....let your plants grow a lot before doing much. Aquascaping is a long process when you first start out...after it is established and grown in and such it is simple weekly maintenance.

can you define this further: "my plants look like fish poo"

posting is a lot more fun when we're playing the :iagree: game. :grinyes:

The vals could definitely be spread out along the back of your tank. (they like root ferts)

Plants need time to adjust & grow... Things may not look like what you envision, but one day you'll spot the first new leaf or two and you'll be so thrilled. :)

Pee in the water. NO NO JUST KIDDING. Try some crushed coral?

EOD I just got back to this thread...ROFLMAO! Good one:lol2:

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread, but I kept forgetting, sorry old head, lol.
Anyhow, I'm using plant tabs, put one under each plant area. It said it would take care of 3"x3".
I thought my plants looked like fish poo because they were beautiful going in and they got really crappy looking, falling apart. I noticed snails crawling on them and then the plant seemed to be thinning in that area. This weekend I'm going to do a bit of a cut down on them, whatever looks scraggly and see through. And boy do those snails grow fast! I've been pulling them out when I can get them and putting them in the Q tank. I'm assuming they're pond snails, nothing special here. I am getting new growth on the Vals now, since the beginning of this thread and on the water sprite and anacharis, very happy about that! :) I'll be planting more but after I see how these are growing.

the tank looks good, pump co2 in slow your air stown down or as said above let it come on when lights go off and wait, add ferts and those plants will grow, soon you will be complaining you have to trim them all the time

pic 2 is growth 5 months later

DGC awsome looking tank. It's amazing how they grow and make eveything look beautiful. I'm not using co2 right now. Most of my plants are low to moderate lighting, which I have plenty, 4x6700. I usually only use half for 10 hours or so. I'm just learning about live plants in the aquarium, I love them!

:iagree: (everybody else was doing it.......)

Let everything grow for awhile, then see what you think. It looks kind of sparce now,but when things get growing,I think it will give you a better idea of what to add,if anything. Your off to a good start.
