I already saved ten apple snails, and euthanized a few fish from my relative's outdoor pond. It looks horrible, and I just happen to come home today to see there were still more snails and two goldfish living in that mess. I can't take anymore rescues in, I've got plenty ringht now. But I can't help but feel I should alleviate the situation somehow.
No food is really fed, but relative says that the decaying plant material serves as a healthy food. Now this is the worst part, I even saw a dead rat on the bottom, and it might have been there a while since it looked to be covered in some kind of algea or something. I'm thinking at this point euthanizing the entire pond would be the best thing to do.
This person doesn't even look at the pond enough to know how bad it is, nor can he admit he's wrong. I have a few days currently when everyone will be out of town, I can do whatever I can in that time as it will eventually happen from the bad conditions anyway. I know the snails may close up in these conditions, so I don't know what would be best for them. I'm thinking maybe they could be saved as were the others, but anything else I don't know. Any suggestions? ~Angela
