Paradise fish in a goldfish bowl

It seems like you already know what you plan to do. Are you really open to listening to what we are saying?

If nothing else, a male and a female in that tight of spaces will likely not get along.

Further, there is just not enough room. Period. There is no "buts" about that. 2.5" is STILL too big for a bowl, even if it's not full size yet.

Nitrate at 40ppm is considered on the high side, not the low side. You want your nitrates to basically never go above forty, preferably under 20, closest to 0 as possible.

Reducing your water changes is just plain foolish, I'm sorry. In a tank with no filter that's just asking for trouble.

Paradise fish are notorious jumpers, too, and most bowls don't have any covers.

Here is an excerpt from Mongabay which is very reliable:

"20" (50 cm) or 10 gallons (38 L) is adequate for smaller fish. Full grown specimen need a larger tank with a minimum size of 24" (60 cm) or 20 gallons (75 L). Provide retreats for the female. The tank should be well-vegetated. Fish prefer large tank with lots of open swimming area. A partial cover of floating plants is beneficial to aide in bubble nest building. The Paradise Fish is an well-known jumper, so the tank should be well-covered. "

I do think 20g is on the high side for an adult...but surely a bowl is too small. Especially considering there is no good reason to use one when you can get a 5g tank for about 5$ at Walmart.

Needless to say, you are 100% sure that the world is flat, PERIOD.

Look Toffee....you came here for advice, but why? You have tried to rebuttle everything that everyone has said. If it is so natural to keep a paradise fish in a bowl(which I wouldnt but anyway...)then why has noone come to your defense? This is a very populated site. You would think that at least 1 single person would agree with you, however this is not the case because it is cruel to keep him in that bowl. My sister in law kept a goldfish in a bowl for 5 years, just because he survived doesnt mean he was a happy fish. If you are going to come here, please do it without trying to make people angry. If you have honest questions and really need advice please ask. But dont be unreasonable. If you didnt need help you wouldnt have come here in the first place.

I came to ask if I should ADD a female. And I have gotten lots opinions, some rather unkind. My question was honest or at least simple. No one has done that but the lack of experience sure hasn't stop people from ranting, has it?

I had oscars, they were happy in my 180g, but they were equally happy in my 75g. What you were saying sounded like, I HAVE an oscar, he's too big to ever consider being kept in a 75g, Period.

Um. This situation, compared to the original, seems a LOT different to me. >.>; Maybe it's just me.

Listen, okay?

Great. Rice paddies. Bettas live in rice paddies, too. But do you see any of US recommending that they be kept in tiny bowls with no filtration? Would any of US stick a male and a female together in a two gallon bowl when they could very easily be aggressive toward one another? No!

If you're already so hell-bent to do what you're trying to do, then why are you asking us about it? If you HAVE so much ruddy experience, why are you asking to talk to someone with experience and then immediately waving them off when they give you advice that's different than what you're wanting to do? In this situation, no one's going to give you a pat on the back if that's what you're looking for.

I haven't jumped face first off a cliff to see if I can live through it, but I know darn well what the result would be.

I hope this gets locked soon.

toffee,

this is a dedicated fish lovers' site. When you ask questions here, you will get advice on how to keep your fish in a good HAPPY environment. And people will be upset when you mistreat your fish after being told the correct methods.

If you could careless about the fish but merely seeking advise on how to keep it alive with minimal effort, then this may not be the best site for you.

And arguing on a fishlover forum on how it is OK to keep a paradise fish in a 2 gallon bowl really does make you retarded.

Lastly, i wouldnt follow aqualandpetsplus.com 's info so closely especially when you have no experience. If you check out other pages on that site, you will find many things that is not recommanded in a normal home fishkeeping environment. Like putting 1100 whiteclouds in a 55 gallon. Those are professional fishkeepers, you are not.

peace,
gaga

Get yourself a 20g long, put him in it and then you'll be able to add a female if you desire.

Needless you don't really care about the natural habitat of paradise fishes, and you assume that I have no experience. Then you call me retard.

Sounded like you are really gaga :)

Are you referring to the lack of experience of keeping fish in small containers?

Most people on here don't have experience keeping paradise fish in tiny containers because knowledgeable people would not try to keep paradise fish in small containers because we know that its not healthy.

The time I have spent on this board, I have found that aquariacentral has some of the most knowledgable fishkeepers anywhere on the web.

Please don't keep trying to defend everything you have said. Oscars to paradise fish is like comparing apples to footballs

:duh:

Nobody is trying to be mean. If you don't want the advice, you can just say, "okay, thanks" You don't need to try to defend everything.

You are just making everybody look mean because you keep making comments about needing people with "experience" and unexperienced "ranting"

Just drop the subject!
