Pearlscale injury...please help!

AWESOME to hear that he gets around pretty well. My Petunia (the huge rescued oranda in the vids from my tank that I showed you) has swim bladder issues, and she's pretty much stuck at the top of the tank. I had to take out ALL of my tall plants in order for her to be able to get around. She *can* get down to the bottom, but, it takes her a lot of effort, and she can't stay down there for long- swimming in the middle- yeah, that doesn't really happen too much. Porkchop (the big rescued Ryukin, who came to me with the tail bruises) has actually pretty much recovered from the swim bladder stuff, and she is swimming around like a champ. I don't think Petunia will have the same luck.

Goldie tanks can look GORGEOUS with just plants and a few rocks. The goldfish are usually ornamental enough that they work really well as a focal in the tank without anything else super fancy going on. I pulled a couple of pics from Google Images that you might like for inspiration. You might need a couple more plants, but,the best thing about the natural rocks is they just require a trip to a lake or river bed with a bucket, and you've got your big rocks. Just boil them for an hour or 2 before letting them cool and adding them to your tank.

And this last one uses one piece of decor very similar to the driftwood chunk you already have, and a bunch of plastic plants- you could already recreate this look now, with what you have- you'd just need a FEW natural rocks, which are easy to come by. Personally, I think this one is stunning. I love, love, LOVE this tank look.

Not trying to be pushy- it's your tank, and whatever you do will be stunningly gorgeous... I just like looking at and sharing aquascapes and ideas. :D

Love those tank pics, Jamie. I had to laugh out loud at the first one, though. What do you want to bet that they tankscaped just for the photos and added the fish? Black sand in a goldie tank- Ba-ha-ha-ha! Even with super diligent mtce. and filtration, that tank wouldn't look like that for long! I have black sand with only six cories in a 29 and it doesn't look that pristine!

The bottom tank looks pretty much like mine, (except spotlessly clean.) I have a very similar set up, but with black river rock walls where the natural stones are.

Is black sand undesirable for some reason?

It's really pretty, and some fish prefer dark substrate. The problem is (especially with goldies) that you see poo EVERYWHERE! And every little scrap of food, or any other detritus. I have black gravel in my betta sorority tank- they are light poopers, and I vacuum weekly, but, it hardly ever has a pristine, clean tank look. It always looks "lived in", for certain.

Oh, absolutely, Anne. That tank is set up for the pics- and didn't stay looking like that for long. Unless you did a tank vac like twice a day, there would be goldie "presents" everywhere on that black sand. LOL. I LOVE the black sand (or even gravel) look- but, it is a pain to keep clean and pretty.

Your tank sounds lovely! I am IN LOVE with that bottom tank pic. I have an asian theme going on in my goldie tank- which I also love, but, if I were to ever rescape it for them- I would definitely be going for the look of the bottom tank pic- minus the black sand. Black river rocks on natural sand, sure... sounds beautiful!

he'll be fine as soon as he gets over the handling stress and gets some days on him

He isnt the Xmen's wolverine so healing will take some time

Those are really pretty, Jamie! And it is actually the exact same driftwood piece from petsmart. :) I rearranged my tank for now and took out the grey rock....thanks for your fist suggestion, that helped a lot. I even made him scoot around the tank to be doubly sure, lol. It's much more Bowser friendly, and it definitely helps that he's pretty mobile. I'll post pics at the bottom. :)

I'll probably end up just changing decor all the time, adding and taking pieces out when I need to. I've given up on a plan, lol.

Hahahahahaha, I had the same thought with the sand, Somervell.

Well, he has been salt dipped for 2 minutes and melafix was added to the tank. He seems to be perking up a bit more, so hopefully he will get better soon! I know it will take time, I just hate seeing him with an owie, poor thing. He seems to be a little less stressed today, even after a tank remodel, water change, salt dip, meds, and an upped filter flow (to help with the melafix changing oxygen levels). I was expecting him to not do too well today, and boy has he surprised me! I love this little fella.

As promised, here's some updated pictures of the tank, now that it is rearranged.

So...I can't get the pearlscale to eat. He won't eat gel food, I dropped about 20 pellets in front of his face one by one and he didn't get ANY, I tried isolating him in a bucket and tried pellets soaked in garlic he completely ignored them, and now there's seaweed in a veggie clip and he isn't interested in that either. The ranchu may have gotten a pellet or two off of the sand...I saw him chewing...but other than that, neither have eaten since they got here, other than a few yummies out of the sand maybe. They aren't even interested. They don't even search in the sand like Batman and Sammi do, or if they do it's VERY rarely. They just swim around and explore and play all day. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...they haven't eaten in almost a week, and they're not hungry...Goldfish are always hungry. I just don't understand. I don't want to lose them guys. :(

Your new tank setup looks great! I like it even better than the first set up!

Don't worry about the goldies not eating yet. This is not a problem. Think about it from Bowser's P.O.V.-- in less than a week he has been shipped from Hawaii in a box, put in a new tank with new brothers and sisters, been caught on an ornament and scraped his side, been lifted out of the tank multiple times for photos and handled, been put in a salt dip and exposed to Melafix-- that's a lot of stress for a golfball with scales! Goldies can go a long time without eating. If it's a week-- worry. If it's a couple of days, he'll eat when he's hungry. I think I would let him chill a little. Try some cooked peas. You know well that they are kind of like fishy crack for goldfish! It's all going to be okay.

I watched your vid. These look like 100% normal (and attractive) goldfish acting like, well.. 100% normal goldfish. They'll chill out and eat after they finish exploring the lovely new environment that they are in. It takes goldies a while to establish territories in the tank, and that appears to be what's going on with Batman and Sammi. They'll each find a corner or a niche, and life will be happy in goldfishville. :)

Its been 6 or 7 days for them. I'll try peas tonight when I get back from work.

Thanks for the compliments, I am liking the new layout too. :)
