My fav. PETA spokesperson has to be Pam Anderson, quote "fur looks ridculous"...Apparently gigantic rubber boobs dont...

I saw Pam on a talk show once and she was explaining how after her pregnancy she saved the placenta in the freezer until she could bury it in the yard come spring.

I'm a little torn on the gigantic rubber boobs on the one hand they're nice to look at, but perhaps she should of went a little smaller as they seem to be diverting too much blood from her brain.

I have the really strange mental immage of my JRT dragging a placenta onto the deck....Ack! The pride of Ladysmith BC...

As Nursie said on the first page, I was amazed at how contradictory the article is on its own terms. The first part of the article details the reasons why any aquarium-keeping is wrong, and then there is this statement:

"While betta males do not get along well with each other, they are able to live with other types of fish in a “community” aquarium."

And after here, of course, it goes onto detail the tenets of responsible fish-keeping. Lovely.

Rex Murphy once said something along the lines of:

They don't mind being advertised as fools, because advertisement is exactly what they seek, if they could only be ignored they would vanish like marsh mist before the sun- their sole goal is to direct their spotlight to their own profiles
(not an exact quote but some of the sentiment.)

Kind of sounds like clip cloping on the bridge to me. Rex was talking about Greenpeace in 1976 but it applies equally well to PETA today.

The natural waste of fish emits ammonia, which can accumulate to toxic levels, so clean the tank regularly, but never empty the tank completely. Be sure to clean the glass well with a pad or a brush to prevent algae growth.

obviously these people know nothing about cycling. . .

Make sure that all objects are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before they are put into the tank. Do not use metal objects, as they will rust.

disinfectant? what, lysol? good idea. how about plain boiling water? and technically, only metals that have iron in them will rust. . .

If a fish seems sick or lethargic, take him or her to a vet. Fish can be medicated, anesthetized, given shots, and operated on, just like other animals. Take along a separate sample of the tank water.

there are no words for this. . . . operated on? seriously. . .

Most fish enjoy companionship. If you have a single fish, check with friends and neighbors to find another loner to adopt—but don’t support the fish trade by going to a dealer.

obviously they don't realize that most of the profit in an aquarium store comes not from the sale of fish, but from all the other stuff (like air pumps and 'snake oil' meds) that people need/think they need for the fish. higher price --> higher profit margin, even against the quantity of fish sold. if you don't want to support the fish trade, then don't keep fish. makes about as much sense as being an ethical vegetarian who wears leather birkenstocks.

And yet again, the solution presents itself...

Try not to laugh too hard at burying it in the yard (I did hear that it is good for trees and such). We were told to keep it and eat it, YES EAT IT! Iron, protein etc, better than liver. UM? We let the hospital keep it for the cafeteria.

As far as PETA, their hearts are in the right place but their minds are too far behind. You have to remember we are the "elite" in fish keepers (though we still can make mistakes). How many goldfish out there are won at carnivals only to become living water balloons for kids, or sit in a cloudy bowl? I'm not saying I agree but to some degree they are correct even if they get all the facts wrong.

You'll also notice that not one of the references listed at the end of that drivel was from a reliable source on fishes. They're all newspaper articles with a few magazine articles peppered in as well.

...they must be just giving away Ichthyology degrees.

To think of the years that I've wasted already if such were the case...

Happy...did the lecture you went to mention what tools fish were using?? Or making? Someone else besides PETA surely must know about this..
Umm hello? shovel nosed catfish? Sawfish? Sailfin(if you count methods of transportation a tool), and what about the hammerhead shark? The answers are all there if you just look. :duh:

I'll have to check with my neighbors to see if they have any naturally bred guppies that travelled from Brazil of their own accord. ...passports, visa's, the whole 9 yards. My single male was found floating last night. If there are any guppy guys out there who can relocate to Annandale, give me a shout. I have three healthy, if overzealous girls waiting.
